Psalm 37:23-24
Topic: The steps of a good man
In Psalm 37:23, the psalmist says that the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. As I look at this particular verse, I was enlightened by the Holy Spirit on the many things that you can say in Psalm 37:23. In Psalm 37:23, you can say:
*The steps of a Christian man are ordered by the Lord
*The steps of a Saved man are ordered by the Lord
*The steps of a Sanctified man are ordered by the Lord
*The steps of a Holy Ghost filled man are ordered by the Lord
*The steps of an Anointed man are ordered by the Lord
*The steps of a man who is called and ordained by God are ordered by the Lord
Or you can say:
*The steps of a good husband are ordered by the Lord
*The steps of a good father are ordered by the Lord
*The steps of a good grandfather are ordered by the Lord
*The steps of a good brother, uncle, or cousin are ordered by the Lord
Psalm 37:23 says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.”
Now a question is being asked, and the question is, “What makes a man becomes a good man?”
Well, a man does not become good just because he does not use drugs, get drunk on alcohol, or chase women. A man does not become a good man just because he got money in the bank, or he has lots of degrees behind his name. That is a man does not become good by his own goodness because Isaiah 64:6 says that our “own goodness or our own righteousness is nothing but a filthy rag before the Lord.”
So the question is still being asked: “How does a man becomes a good man?”
Psalm 100:5 says, “For the Lord is good, his mercy is everlasting and his truth endureth to all generations.”
Since the Lord is good all the time, and all the time The Lord is good, then it is the Lord that makes a man a good man. And the Lord makes a man to become a good man when the man believes and receives Jesus Christ as His personal Lord and Savior.
Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
And in II Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.”
You see when a man gives his life to Jesus Christ, trusting in Him for His salvation, he becomes a new man in Christ. And a new man in Christ is also a good man.
Psalm 37:3 says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.”
Now another question is being asked and the question is, “What does it mean that the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.”
1.The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord means that the steps of a good man are directed by the Lord.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.
2.The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord means that the steps of a good man are guided by the Lord.
Psalm 48:14 says, “For this God is our God forever and ever. He will be our guide even unto death.”
3.The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord means that the steps of a good man are led by the Lord.
Psalm 25:5 says, “Lead me in thy truth, and teach me; for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.”
So to have your steps ordered by the Lord means:
1.To be directed by the Lord
2.To be guided by the Lord
3.To be led by the Lord
But for the Lord to direct your steps, guide your steps, or to lead you in the way you should go, there are some things we must do:
1.First of all, if we want the Lord to order our steps, you must have faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.”
2.Secondly, if we want our steps to be ordered by the Lord, we must be in prayer daily.
St. Luke 18:1 says that “men should always pray and not faint.”
I Thessalonians 5:17 says that to “pray without ceasing.”
In Jeremiah 33:3, the LORD says, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee and show you great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
3.Thirdly if we want our steps ordered by the Lord, we must believe, read, study, meditate and obey the Word of God.
Psalm 119:133 says, “Order my steps in thy word, and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.”
4.Fourthly, if you want the Lord to order your stpes, you must be led and filled with the Holy Ghost.
Romans 8:14 says, “For as many are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
Ephesians 5:18 says, “Be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess, but be filled with the Spirit.”
Psalm 37:23 says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and he delighteth in his way.”
You see, when you allow the Lord to order your steps, there will be peace.
When you allow the Lord to order your steps, there will be joy.
When you allow the Lord to order your steps, there will be power.
When you allow the Lord to order your steps, there will be victory.
When you allow the Lord to order your steps, you have something to shout about because when He order your steps, you will be blessed going in and going out, you will be blessed in the city and in the field, you will be the head and not the tail, you will be above ,and not beneath. And when God blesses you like that you ought to praise God with a joyful noise!!!!!!!
Now it must be understood that having your steps ordered by the Lord does not mean that everything will be rosy and smooth for you all the times. While the Lord is ordereing your steps, there will be times you will face some problems, obstacles, setbacks, sickness, pain, disappointments, heartbreaks and failures. But through it all, through sunshine and rain, while the Lord is ordering your steps, just know and believe that all things are going to work together for the good to them that love the Lord, and is called according to his purpose. You got to believe and know that God is able to order your steps through your problems, through your disappointments, through your heartbreaks, through your pain, or whatever. Just know and believe that no matter what you face in this life, if you allow the Lord to order your step, you will have the victory!!!!!
Now it must be understood that a good man is not a perfect man.
Psalm 37:23-24 says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and he delighteth in his way Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast downl for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.”
Every once in a while, a good man will get side-tracked and sin. Throughout the bible, we will there were many good men who got sidetracked and messed up. For example, Noah was a good man, but he got drunk.
Moses was a good man, but he killed a man
King David was a good man, but he committed adultery.
Peter was a good man, but he cussed somebody out.
And guess what? You too have been side-tracked, and messed up. Romans 3:232 says,“For all have sinned and comeshort of the glory of God.”
But the good thing is that when you have messed up and sinned, God “will not utterly cast us down, for the Lord upholdeth us in his hand.” That is when you have messed up, God is not going to cast you away. If you ask God for forgiveness, He will forgive you and give you another chance. You see our life is like a broken vase that was broken when it fell off the shelf. Instead of throwing the vase away, the owner of the vase goes and buy some super glue to put that vase back together again. Likewise, sometimes our lives get shattered by sin, but God is able to put us back together again. Instead of using the super glue, God uses the blood of Jesus Christ to clean us up and He uses the power of the Holy Spirit to put us back together again. No matter how bad you may have messed up, Jesus Christ is able to straighten up your life.
