"BETRAYED!!"
John Chapter 13:18-30
Aww praise the Lord people of God, come on & bless his name for he is WORTHY to be praised!! Hallelujiah, you may be seated in the presence of the Lord! Mmm.. I want to begin a series on today dealing with this particular passage & about 2 to 3 other ones, dealing with this disciple called Judas & his significance in the word of God to the crucifixion and the ultimate victory of Jesus the Christ... And I want to deal with this thing called Betrayal for the next few weeks and if I could put a tag or a title on this series I would call it "The Art or Act of Betrayal." And so for this first message if I could I just wanna kinda stick to the basics of this topic and individual, and I wanna talk for just a few minutes as the Holy Ghost shall lead & guide from the subject of "Betrayed!!" Turn to your nieghbor & tell ’em "Betrayed." Turn on the other side & tell them "Betrayed." Mmm, hmmm... I feel God in here already! Mmm.. Help me Holy ghost.
In this particular text of John chapter 13 Jesus has just finished supping with his disciples and washing thier feet, mmm, hmmm, and now he openly admits to the disciples that one of his very own is about to betray him.. Ahh, and his disciples look quizically at eachother wondering just who it might be... And so one of them leans up against Jesus & says "Lord, which one may it be." And Jesus replies.. "The one whom I give this piece of bread to once dipped in the dish." And so he dipped it and handed it to Judas, and the Bible says that when he ate of it Satan entered into him. And Jesus says "What you are about to do, do quickly." Hmmm, and this text strikes me and it strikes me because it wasn’t just an enemy that betrayed Jesus, no, it was at a whole nother level because, because it was someone who Jesus was CLOSE to!
Ahh, Can I take my time on this for a minute? I’ll talk about what I just stated in a few minutes but, hmmm, My Brothers & my sisters, I am convinced today beyond a shadow of a doubt that to be betrayed is a serious matter. Ahh and not just to be betrayed, but to be betrayed by someone CLOSE to you, mmm, hhmm. See it’s one thing to be betrayed by your enemies, I mean you kinda expect that. But to be betrayed by someone CLOSE to you, that’s serious. And that’s the kinda betrayal I wanna talk about. And Betrayal is serious for a few reasons. Can I let ya know? The first reason betrayal is serious is because it involves honesty. Ahh see if you betray me then you are not being honest with me and that means that we really don’t have any kinda a relationship because you have been dishonest with me and if there’s no honesty then there can be no real relationship. So it is serious because it involves honesty, but it also is serious because it involves this thing called trust. Yeah, I put my faith & trust in you and you broke it, yeah, you betrayed me. And how many people know once you’ve lost trust in somebody it takes a long time to get it back! Can I get a witness? But the third reason Betrayal is serious is because it’s painful and it hurts. Ahh, ha, I believe there’s no greater hurt or pain then to be betrayed by someone that you’re close to. Mmm.. I wish i had some help up in here!
And so what exactly is this thing called betrayal? Well, i’m glad you asked.. You see Betrayal means a few things in the Biblical conotation that I need to tell you about before I get to the text. First of all, Betrayal means "to give aid or information to an enemy of." Ahh, that’s what Judas did in the word, He went to the pharasees & told them exactly where Jesus was in exchange for 30 pieces of silver. Ahh, but can I bring that up to speed to today, that’s just like all the people you have Smiling up in your fface but talking about you behind your... Ohh I wish I had somebody who knew what I was talking about! You better be careful who you say your friends are, because not everybody that smiles up in your face or pats you on your back is your friend! As a matter of fact, those are the people I MAINLY WATCH OUT FOR!! Can I get an "Amen"?
But not only that, it also means, "To deliver into the hands of an enemy in violation of a trust or alliegance." Judas did that too. He was one of the trusted ones, verse 29 in the text says he was one of the trusted ones of the money. Now I don’t know about you, but I’ve REALLY gotta trust you to let you handle my money, can I get a witness? But he had a trust & an alligeiance with God & HE BROKE THAT! That’s like... How many people have you had in your life whom you’ve told something to in confidence & next thing you know the word was out to EVERYBODY?? They betrayed your trust!!
Mmm, I’m about to go crazy & lose my mind! Aww, help me hold it together.. The third thing Betrayal means is "To be false or disloyal to".. Or in modern day terms, "To front or stunt." Judas was disloyal to Jesus! He had to be frontin’ and stuntin’ the whole time, putting on a viscad to get that close to Jesus! But he ultimately was disloyal & didn’t mean Jesus NO GOOD! You’d better watch for those people that act one way around you & another way around somebody else! They’re FALSE, PHONY, FAKE, FRONTin’, and STUNTin’ AND WILL MORE THAN LIKELY BE DISLOYAL!!!
And the last thing, the last thing betrayal means and then i’m going to get to the text is... "To lead astray or decieve." I believe that Judas was the master of deception! You’d better be careful about those around you who talk a bunch of yen yang & try to tell you the wrong thing.. I need to tell ya if ya wanna know the litanus test for a betrayer and a deciever, see IF THEY’RE GETTING YOU CLOSER TO GOD!! IF THEY’RE NOT CHANCES ARE THEY ARE A DECIEVER & A BETRAYER!!! AWW CAN I GO AHEAD & GET TO THE TEXT & GET OUTTA YOUR WAY??
We find ourselves here, landing in the book of John Chapter 13, verse number 18, Jesus has just finised supping with the disciples & washing thier feet. And he says in verse 18, "He who shares my bread has lifted up his heel against me." I need to tell you, ha, that sharing food one to another is an intimate act, ahh, I don’t share my food with just anybody, so I need to tell you watch out for those, whom you are most intimate with, those you share, your all with, because they may be huh, the very ones, ha, to betray you! Can I get a witness? Ahh, but I kept on reading, ha, & The word says, down in verse 21, ha, that Jesus was troubled in spirit, and itsays Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, ha, one of you is going to betray me." Well, If I could stop right there I’d tell you, that sometimes, the truth hurts, ha, sometimes, ha, it don’t feel good, but I’d rather have Jesus tell me the truth, because he is THE TRUTH, over anybody else!" Can I keep it real? I kept on reading, and it says, ha, in verses 22-25, that all the disciples, looked at eachother, wondering who it would be, and so the one whom Jesus loved, leaned up to him, ha, and he said, "Lord, who is it?" And jesus said "It is the one whom I give this piece of breadto, when I have dipped it in the sop.", I need to stop right there, because I found out, That in those times, ha, it was an honor, huh, and a privelidge, to be handed a piece of bread dipped in sop, hah, so what that tells me, ha, is that Judas, ha, was close to Jesus, enough, that he respected & honored him, ohh, I feel God in here! Jesus gave the bread to Judas, and the word says, that as soon, as he took it in, satan entered into him, and Jesus said, ha, in verse 27, "What you are about to do, do quickly", Ha, That was, a command from the Lord, and so I asked the Holy Ghost, why, would he want it done quickly? And he told me, ha, because that shows, that even though he had been betrayed, huh, Jesus still had POWER OVER HIS BETRAYER! OHHH, Y’all ain’t hearin’ me, i’m about to lose my mind up in this place!! I stopped by, huh, to tell you, huh, I know, you’ve been betrayed, huh, I know, you’ve been hurt, I know, ha, you’ve been stabbed in the back, ha, and ya don’t feel like you can go in... You feel like, ha, you’ll NEVER, ha, trust again, haha, Well, I’ve got good news, ha, you’ve still got POWER, POWER, POWER, POWER, in the name of Jesus, over your betrayer! Turn to your nieghbor, ha, tell ’em "Nieghbor, Ha, I’ve got power, Ha, over my betrayer! THANK YOU JESUS! Ha, I’m tryin’ to finish this text, but I feel delieverance in my body, ha, so to all you, ha, who’ve been betrayed, who’ve been lied on, who’ve been used & abused & mistreated, ha, who’ve now, ha, let your betrayer Ha, take control over every relationship you’ve been in since then, to the point, ha, where ya don’t trust or feel close to anybody, I dare ya, ha, do as Jesus did, ha, and take power, ha, over your betrayer, ha, take power over your relationships, ahh, I speak deliverance hah, to every relationship in this house, that’s burdened by the spirit, ha, of betrayal, ha, I dare ya, take power over that thang, & bind it, ha, in the name of JESUS!!! I dare ya, ha, give God a thirty seccond praise, hah, like you’ve lost your mind!!! Look at your nieghbor, & say "Nieghbor, I’m taking back, ha, everything, my betrayer, ha, has taken from me, take it back..ha, take it back, ha... TAKE IT BACK!!! SAY YES!!! SAY YES! SAY YESSS! I’M ABOUT TO GET HAPPY HUH, ALL BY MYSELF, FOR WHEN I THINK OF THE GOODNESS OF JESUS...WHOOOA!!! WHOOAAA! I DARE YA TO BLESS HIM, I DARE YA TO DO IT, I DARE YA, I DARE YA, GIVE GOD PRAISE! MAGNIFY HIM! LIFT HIM UP! HA, HE’S WOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHYYYY!!!!
mmm.. I’ve gotta close the book & leave it alone, but there’s 2 gems left in the text that I didn’t get to share with ya, because y’all got me all excited, ha, ha. But the first thing is I did some research on the name Judas, and in the roman language it means, "Dagger man." Ha, ha, don’t y’all get me started again up in here, ya see, it’s one thing to be a sword man, I can hit you from far off, but a dagger a dagger, is, is small & so to get you I’ve gotta be, I’ve gotta be CLOSE to you! Yeah, huh, ha, ya got it now... Turn to your nieghbor & tell em "Nieghbor close, close!" But not only that, the last thing, & then i’m closing the book, verse 30 says, "As soon as he had taken the bread, he went out and it was NIGHT." I’m closing the book now, but there’s something dismal about that word "Night" and how it’s used in the text. But the point I want to make is, How many of y’all know that God does his best work at... "" Yeah, "Weeping may endure for a night but Joy will come in the morning." That’s why I can sleep well, because I know no matter what I’ve got going on in my life God is working it out! SHOUT HALELLUJIAH!!
Alright, i’m going to go to part 2 of this series on next week as the holy spirit shall guide, but that’s enough for today. Amen, Amen. Let us all stand to our feet as the doors of the church are open.. (Inv. to discipleship.)
