The Blood Smeared Cross
Exodus 12: 1-14
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying,
2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.
10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’s Passover.
12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

If you ever saw the movie “The Ten Commandments” with Charlton Heston then you saw the scene above played out as the Angel of Death passed over all the houses of the Israelites. The Israelites from that day forward have celebrated the “Passover” and they still do it today.
It was indeed a miracle of GOD to spare all the first born of Israel while taking the first born of everybody else in Egypt!
GOD is after all in the Miracle Business. He still does miracles today!
But no miracle is greater then the one he done on a hill side outside of Jerusalem 2,000 years ago! God had his ONLY BEGOTTEN SON CRUCIFIED!
Talk about miracles Jesus was a Miracle himself. Who could have ever thought that GOD would make himself into a baby and have himself grow up here on Earth and feel all our desires and pains and temptations just so he could be horribly crucified for us! That is the miracle of miracles.
But now I want you to come with me to the next day and stand on that hill and look at the three crosses that are still standing.
Look mainly at the one in the middle, that is the one on which Jesus was crucified! Look real close and you can see the blood of JESUS smeared all over it.
Look at John 19: 19
19And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Now look at the top of the cross and you see the sign that was placed on it and just below that is the first smear of blood. This is where the crown of thorns pierced his head and caused him to bleed. This is blood that he shed so you could some day wear a crown of righteousness purchased through his blood.
Paul says in 2 Timothy 4:8
”Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
Now look at the cross member out on the ends see the blood there. This is the blood that came out of Jesus’ hands when they nailed them to the cross. These are the same hands that broke the bread and the fish and fed 5,000 people. The same hands that healed the blind man eyes. The same hands that pulled Peter up out of the water. The same hands that Thomas Touched. Listen to John chapter 20 verses 24-29.
24But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God.
29Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
These hands weren’t held to the cross by nails but by Jesus’s Love for You!
Now look right in between the blood smears from the hands right where the cross members come together and just below that see the blood smeared there. This is the blood that came from HIS back where he was whipped and beaten. Whipped and beaten for our sins.
Look at Mark 15:15
And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.
Now look at Isaiah 53 verses 4 & 5
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Whipped and beaten for our sins. This blood was put there for us!
Now look about three foot down below this stain and see the blood smeared there this is where they nailed his feet to the cross. The same feet that had just spent three years walking from village to village, from need to need so he could tell the people about His Heavenly Father who wished for all of them to repent and be saved. The same feet that walked on water on the Sea of Galilee so he could save Peter and the other disciples. These feet are the ones that brought JESUS to this place He trudged up the hill on these feet knowing He was going to die for you and me and everyone else in the world. Look at Isaiah 52 verse 7.
7How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!
These are the feet that walked toward Jerusalem and certain death so that we might all live!
Now look at the side of the cross and all the way down to the ground. This is the blood that flowed from his side when they pierced him so they could be sure that JESUS was DEAD! Look at John 19: 32-34
32Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
33But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
34But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
This was done to assure that JESUS was Dead, so no one could deny his death! Look again at John 20. Look at Verses 24-29 again!
JESUS offer to let Thomas thrust his hand in his sides to take away all of Thomas’s doubt and it should do the same for you because this proves that this is the same JESUS that hung upon the cross!
Here we have the basis for our celebration of the PASSOVER.
You see the Israelites celebrate the Passover because they slaughtered a lamb and smeared the blood on the lintels of the doors so the Angel of Death would pass over them. And they were to cook the lamb with fire and eat all of it.
Today Christians the world over partake of the “Lords Supper” and eat of the body of Christ and drink of his blood just as the disciples did during the Last Supper.
And we celebrate the Passover every Easter as we celebrate the Resurrection of JESUS for death no longer has any hold over us. The Angel of Death might take this body but he cannot take my soul and it will live in a new Heavenly Body which GOD has made for each of us.
Death cannot touch because GOD in the FORM of JESUS the Only Begotten Son died for us on the cross and in so doing he smeared his blood on it. So the Angel of Death must pass us by because when he looks at us he sees the Blood Smeared Cross of JESUS!
