WHAT CAN WE COUNT ON
Luke 18:1-8
Intro: Recently I received an e-mail that had several questions in it, These questions seemed to have no clear answer.
1. Why do Dr.s & lawyers call it a practice? 2. Why is abbreviation such a long word?
3. How come when driving & looking for an address, we turn the radio down?
4. What was the best thing before sliced bread? 5. Why is a boxing ring square?
6. How do they get the deer to cross the road at those signs?
All these were designed to give us a lighthearted look at some things we truly don’t understand.
But let me take to a deeper level, for example we don’t really understand diseases, Why a child lives healthy for 13 years then gets a germ or bacteria in their system that destroys their body.
This is what often happens in an Meningitis case.
We don’t understand accidents, How they are so random and they don’t discriminate between race, color, or any other thing. How at a matter of seconds events can happen that will effect our entire lives or possibly end it.
On and on we could go with things we don’t understand. Why is there so much pain in the world? Why can’t people get along? Why do good people suffer? Why does good prayers go unanswered?
All these questions raise one more question above all else, What can we really count on?
When we face the troubles of this world, the difficulties, the heartaches, the disappointments, and the challenges. What can we really count on from God.
The parable in Luke 18 gives us some answers to these questions. In the parable we have the prideful, arrogant, unjust judge who because he has nothing to gain refuses at first to help someone in need. But because of the woman’s humble persistence he finally helps her.
