The Ephesus Attitude
Rev. 2:1-7
I. The Ephesus Attitude is One of Soundness (v. 2-3)
A. They were sound in their doctrine
1. They did not stand for false teaching
2. They did not stand for phony leaders
3. They did not tolerate evil among them
B. They were sound in their practices (v. 3)
1. They were a discerning church
2. They were a hard working church
C. They were sound in their position
1. There was no doubt about their Savior
2. There was no doubt about who they worked for in the past
II. The Ephesus Attitude Can Be a Forgetful Attitude (v. 4)
A. They were among the best, but they still were not perfect
B. They were among the best, but their passion had become mechanical
C. They were among the best, but their focus changed
What Can Cause the Bad Ephesus Attitude? :
• Routines become more important than passion
• Committees become more important than the Commission
• Past victories become the couch of the future
• Our desires override the desire and will of God
• Our love for things of man override our love for the things of God
III. The Ephesus Attitude Can Be Changed (v. 5-7)
A. The person with the Ephesus Must Remember
1. Remember what is like to love Christ
2. Remember when you were most in love with Christ
B. The person with the Ephesus attitude must repent
1. Repentance begins with God
2. Repentance comes from a recognition
3. Repentance will result in a changed life
C. The person with the Ephesus attitude must return
1. Return to serving for the right reasons
2. Return to having a passion for service
3. Return to Christ and His fellowship having priority.
