Mother’s: Called to bring remembrance to our faith…
"...I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also......from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." (2 Timothy 1:5; 3:15).
Let’s take a moment to give thanks to God for all that we have learned from our mothers.
First let me say thank you and welcome this morning to our dearest Mother’s in our congregation and community today.
You have indeed been crafted as a very special and blessed vessel of Christ, and we rejoice that we have the privilege of walking with you today and each day that you grace us with your presence. Let us look at some Godly advise for mother’s today…
Paul reminded Timothy of his great privilege that he had been given.
A mother and grandmother devoted to God and the things of God.
Will this be something that your children and others around you will be saying in the next 10, 20 or 30 years?
I pray it will be, it’s what God has set aside for you, if you seek to be a Godly mother.
Timothy’s mother and grandmother, Eunice and Lois were staunch believers who were faithful to God’s Word, to the greatest extent of their effort.
As was the case in Timothy’s lifetime, it is still the key in any healthy family: faithfulness to God’s Word every day.
Timothy’s mother and grandmother had taught Timothy the Scriptures from earliest childhood.
“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (2 Tim. 3:15).
Because of his mother and grandmother’s guidance: Timothy’s faith in Christ was genuine and sincere; it was real and true.
One of the major reasons for his strength in the Lord was the strong faith of his mother, Eunice, and his grandmother, Lois.
Godly mothers ground us in the faith.
Are you grounding your children in faith in God and the things of God today?
What a glorious testimony of mothers, yet an awesome responsibility.
Parents must be godly, possessing the strongest of faiths—a faith that is genuine and true, real and sincere.
Would your children say your faith is true?
Mothers today, will you trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and raise your children to trust Christ?
Will you root your children in the Scripture so that they will know how to walk in Christ daily?
“I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day” (2 Tim. 1:3).
“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (2 Tim. 3:15).
“And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up” (Deut. 6:7).
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old; he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).
How are Children a Blessing to Mothers
Children you are also given a commandment today…Honour thy father and thy mother...
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Exodus 20:12
Honour thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Deut. 5:16
Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Matt 19:19
For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death: Mark 7:10
Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. Luke 18:20
The word used is timao, tim-ah’-o; from Greek 5093 (timios); to prize, i.e. fix a valuation upon; by implication to revere :- honour, value.
Children do you value your mother?
I pray that you do, for too soon this blessing to will pass, value them while you may.
The Blessings of a Mother
What do mothers bless us with?
They bless us with the following:
· Dedication (I Sam 1:11), And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
· Protection (Ex. 2:3), And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink.
· Training (II Tim. 1:5), When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
· Prayers (Genesis 21:16-19), And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bowshot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept. [17] And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is. [18] Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation. [19] And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.
· Love (I Kings 3:26), Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.
· Triumph (Matthew 15:25-28) Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. [26] But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs. [27] And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. [28] Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
These are indeed great tributes to the greatness of the gift of motherhood to which you ladies have been called.
Take a moment today to thank your Mother, she is such a blessed gift of God.
Ladies will you commit today to raise your children for God?
