I. A Fool’s Prosperity is Fleeting (vs. 16-18
A. This man’s prosperity was all earthly
1. His farm produced plentifully
2. Pride in his great harvest
3. Time to build new barns
B. Everyone saw him as successful.
C. Something in his life was missing. (vs 15)
D. Everything he possessed was passing, and
He was not rich toward God. (vs.21)
II. A Fool’s security is false. (vs. 18-19)
A. His future seemed secure
1. He had goods laid up for many
years.
2. No retirment worries.
This is not saying that we should not prepare for retirement or for the future provisions of our family, but simply that it should not be the all consuming passion and satisfaction in our life. (I Timothy 5:8)
B. The present seemed perfect
1. “Take thinge ease”
2. “Eat, drink, and be merry”
3. Time to relax and live it up.
III. A Fool’s Eternity is fearful (v. 20)
A. His last night on earth. (20a)
B. His possessions would profit him nothing.
1. He couldn’t take them with him.
2. His heirs would fight over them
C. Although he had prepared for the
future, he had notprepared for eternity.
D. He would harvest his deeds and not his
fields. (Num 32:23)
Conclusion:
What if this was your last night on earth? Is there anything that you would do differently? Where would you spend eternity? Everyone will spend eternity somewhere. It will either be in heaven or in hell. The choice is yours to make. Will you accept God’s free gift of salvation?
