RELEASING THE ANOINTING
1 Jn 2:20
“But…you have an ^anointing^ from the Holy Spirit, and all of you know the truth”.
1 Jn 2:27
“But you have received the ^anointing^, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you all things, and what he teaches is true – it is not a lie. So continue in what he has taught you, and continue to live in Christ”.
These 2 verses tell us that we as believers already have the anointing from God.
The anointing is not in the future. It is NOW.
We ALL have the anointing now.
This anointing comes from the Holy Spirit.
The anointing is in the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit dwells in our spirit, our heart.
That is why the two verses tell us that we all have the anointing within us already.
So the anointing is not for a selected few.
As long as we have the Holy Spirit, and that includes ALL Believers, then we have the anointing according to the writing of apostle John as inspired by the Holy Spirit.
This anointing is God’s ability to fulfill the purpose that He has ordained or called each one of us into. There is a purpose for every church and for every Christian. God does not create or called people into wantonness. But God has a purpose for everyone.
Maybe, not everyone has discovered his purpose or his calling in life. However, that does not mean that God did not have a purpose for him or her. That person only needs to discover the purpose that God has for him or her.
Together with the purpose of God, God in His grace and His might has given us the anointing to achieve that purpose and that calling that He has called us into.
This anointing is by the grace of God. It is not something that we can earn or buy. It is totally a gift of God.
What do we need to do now?
We need to RELEASE that Anointing that God has placed in our Lives.
We need to RELEASE it.
We are not as to keep it but to let the anointing comes out of our lives.
That means to allow God and His anointing to work in our lives and to work through our lives.
Question: What do I mean by to Release it?
To Release it means you have to do something.
If you want to release water from a tap, you have to turn the tap.
If you want to release someone from prison, you have to open the prison doors.
If you want to release a balloon from your hand, you have to open your grip from the balloon.
To release the Anointing means that you have to do something.
In fact, throughout the Bible, God has always honored our faith in Him when we act on our faith.
Faith without works is dead.
It is in the doing that we begin to receive the Blessing. It is not in the Hearing, or in this case, the reading of a sermon.
It is in the Doing.
Illustration:
Jesus did a lot of praying. But do you know that Jesus also do more that He pray.
Jesus is in the Doing. Jesus said I have to work my Father’s business as long as it is day for night will come when we cannot do anything.
Joh 9:4 We must do what the one who sent me wants us to do while it is day. The night when no one can do anything is coming.
Yes, Jesus prays a lot. Sometimes Jesus prays throughout the night. But Jesus demonstrated the Works of God in the Doing where He went about doing God’s Business.
NOW, Jesus is giving us the mandate.
Jesus is saying we need to be Doing also.
So GO and do something.
- Jesus said – Go not Come.
So many times, we Christians wait for something to happen or someone to come to us then only we begin to go all out for God.
But Jesus is telling everyone, Hey, don’t wait for people or events to come. Go and do something about it.
Take the initiative. Be on the Offensive. Don’t take the Defensive. Hell will not prevail against you when you Go.
Mt 28:19-20
“Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, GO and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And to be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
- Go…I am with you always.
It is in the Going and Doing that God promised us that God will be with us always.
Mark 16:16
“GO into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone, everywhere.”
- Where do we Go? Go into everywhere – not just in the church.
Don’t stay in the church. Go everywhere. Jesus will be with us everywhere. The anointing will be with us everywhere.
Jesus did not promised to be with us always when we Stay.
He promised that when we Go, He will be with us.
Ps 143:8
“Let me hear of your unfailing love in the morning, for I am trusting you.
Show me where to walk, for I have come to you in prayer.”
The Psalmist is saying, I will hear in to morning so that you can teach me to Go (where to walk) and then I will GO.
- Hear in the morning – teach me to Go.
Qn: Where to Go? – Answer: Go Everywhere.
Qn: What to Do when we Go?
No. 1: Go and Talk
Lk 9:60
Jesus replied, “Let those who are spiritually dead care for their own dead. Your duty is to GO AND PREACH the coming of the Kingdom of God.”
Mk 16:16 = GO AND PREACH
Do you know that Everyone can preach?
Yes Go and Preach Reconciliation with God.
2 Cor 5:18
“And God has given us the task of reconciling people to Him.”
So now, we know that Everyone has the task – the task of Rescuing people from the Kingdom of Darkness and Reconciling them with God.
Open your Mouth to Preach, to Speak, to Proclaim, to Make Known, to Tell, to Show so that by whatever means and methods People will be saved and delivered from Darkness and translated into His marvelous light.
James says everyone of us has a tongue.
The problem is how do we use our tongue.
James 3:9 – Everyone has a tongue – we either use it for Good or for Evil. So now use it for Good.
Illustration: Story of the Lifeguard Station
There is a place that has a dangerous seacoast where there are many shipwrecks.
The local people have put up a lifeguard station – and the purpose of the station is to watch out for shipwrecks and to save survivors.
A few people will take turns to watch the seas and with the help of a motorboat – they manage to save many lives.
The place became very famous for saving lives.
People contribute money and donations to build a nice building to upgrade and to show gratitude for the lives that were saved.
Those that were helped by the lifeguard station – continue to come and hang around the place and turning it into a kind of Clubhouse. They have games and social corners.
Later during the process of months, whenever there is a shipwreck, the survivors will be brought to the Lifeguard Station (which is now more like a Clubhouse) – and the place becomes dirty, and the furniture gets spoiled. What do you expect when you have to clean up the survivors?
Slowly, some of the people began to object. These life-saving activities are now disturbing their social life at this Clubhouse. Some of them agree, while some disagree.
Those who disagree were told to start another Lifeguard Station – further down the beach.
As the years go by, these things repeat themselves.
And so more and more clubhouses were started along the beach – because the people had to make a choice between a Lifeguard Station and an exclusive Clubhouse.
Question = What has happened to the place? – They have forgotten their original Purpose.
Application:
The church must never forget its Purpose and the Task given by God. That is to Go and Preach.
- We are to Save Lives – so we cannot be Sidetracked.
When the Church stops rescuing the Lost, then the Church needs to be Rescued.
How do we release the anointing?
Answer = when we Go and Preach.
How do we stop the flow of anointing into and out of our lives?
Answer = when we do not go and preach.
No. 2 Go and Walk
Mk 1:21-27 = When Jesus was teaching, the demons cannot stand in the anointing and Jesus casted out the demon.
The demons never came looking for Jesus.
Wherever Jesus walked, the demons screamed out in terror, because the Son of God has walked into their territory.
In a war, the most dreadful thing that can happen is when your opponent has entered into your territory, when they have come within your walls.
Demons don’t come into the church and wait for themselves to be cast out. We are asked to go into the world and cast out demons.
Jesus said, go into the entire world and preach the gospel…for in my Name they shall cast out devils.
We are called to bring terror into the enemy’s territory.
It is very ironic to see many Christians afraid of the devil.
The devil should be afraid of you – because of the anointing of God in your lives, because you are a Christian.
Many Christians think that if we do not disturb the devil, he will not disturb you.
What a lie and deception. When you do not disturb the devil, he already has you under his power and he can do with you whatever he wants and whenever he wants.
It is better for Christians to renew their mind and quickly come under the covering and anointing of God by obeying God in Go and Preach and Walk all over for Jesus.
1 Jn 2:20 – we carry the anointing everywhere we go. Wherever we walk, the anointing follows us.
Whenever we go, the anointing follows us.
Wherever we go, the anointing follows us.
When we walk all over the world for Jesus, we bring the anointing to the place that our very feet goes.
The anointing of God is so powerful that even kings have to make way for the anointing.
1 Chr 16:21,22
He rebuked kings for their sake, saying, “Do not touch My Anointed ones.”
- Even kings have to respect the anointing of God.
When we are all over the world, we bring light into places of darkness.
Mt 5:14
You are the light of the world…let it shine for all.”
Jesus said, you are the light.
Those days, people have to go to temples to see the glory/anointing of God.
God has now come out of temples made of buildings – into temples that can walk – you and me.
As we walk – people will begin to see the power of God around you.
Application:
Jesus never said, Stay and preach the Gospel.
Jesus said, Go and Preach the Gospel.
Let us get out of comfort zone, get out of our pews, get out of our nests and church buildings and walk all over the world to go and preach the gospel.
No. 3 Go and See
As we go and walk all over the world, we are asked to see with the eyes of God.
It takes Faith to See through the Eyes of God.
It is very easy to see through human eyes and to see with human logic.
But it takes faith in a great God to see things and situations as God sees.
Illustration:
Once on a ship liner on a journey through the Atlantic Ocean, the apostle Smith Wigglesworth was in the Great Banquet Hall where all the guests and ship staff gathered together to have a gala time. And everyone was having a jolly good time getting drunk and making merry. (Sounds like our present time). Then everyone was asked to make a presentation just to boost the drinking atmosphere and to get everyone more drunk.
What would you do if you were in the same situation as Smith Wigglesworth? Would you go back to your room and lock yourself in and pray? Would you excused yourself and pretend that you are busy or having an upset stomach? Not Smith Wigglesworth. He stayed through the whole time even though he did not sing or dance along with them.
When it came to his turn to give a presentation, he gladly went up, took the microphone and began to sing a gospel hymn giving praise to God and asking for the repentance of every listener resulting in bringing tears to many.
Smith saw the opportunity to witness to the unbelievers and a wonderful chance to preach to the captive audience. What do you see when in such a situation?
Let us look with the Eyes of God and not through the eyes of man.
Ps 91:8
“You will only look with your eyes and see the destruction of the wicked.”
- it seems impossible but it is true. It is in the Word.
- Let us begin to see with the eyes of God and the Eyes of Faith.
Ps 37:34
“Don’t be impatient for the Lord to act!
Travel steadily along his path. He will honor you, giving you the land.
You will see the wicked destroyed.”
Application:
Don’t be impatient. Many a “wrong”’ situation is actually an opportunity for the Glory of God.
See that God is on your side – and see the destruction of the devil and his bondages.
No. 4 Go and Touch
Touching in a physical contact sense is very important in the Christian ministry.
Mk 16:18 – Jesus tells us to lay hands on the sick. The Anointing flows through our Touch.
Jesus shows us the example when He touches all kinds of people.
Acts 10:38
“You know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the Devil, for God was with him.”
Touch is an Act of our Believe.
- We Believe – that is why we dare to Touch – and when we touch, we know something will happen. If we don’t believe, then we dare not touch for fear that whatever is the cause of the problem will jump back onto us.
Jesus touch – sick people, children, blind men, demonized people, prostitutes, lepers, the wind and the waves, dead people, animals, peoples’ homes and all kinds and types of people.
So we also need to Go and Touch.
We are to be examples of Jesus. Christians means little Christ.
Sometimes, we are afraid to touch – others – thinking that what they have will come upon us.
- But the anointing of God – is like an Underwater Shark Display Tunnel.
You are walking through the glass tunnel and all these dangerous sea creatures are swimming all around you.
They cannot touch you or harm you because of the thick glass that is surrounding you.
You are in a Glass Corridor. The sharks can swim all around you but they cannot get you.
The Psalmist says:
Ps 3:3 “But you O Lord, are a shield for me.”
Jesus go and touch, so we need to go and touch.
Application:
Remove all doubt and fear and go and touch. Lay hands on the sick, on the oppressed, on the depressed, on the infirm and begin to marvel at the works of God through your touch.
No. 5 Go and Believe
As we go, we need to believe God and Him who sends us.
We are not going in our own anointing or our own abilities.
We are going in His abilities and His Anointing. With God on our side, who can be against us.
Believe in God.
Believe in a great and a mighty God.
The Master of the Universe is on our side.
Illustration: There is a Story of Princess Diana
There was one time that Princess Diana went to America and visited a department store. She saw a red and black polka dot silk scarf. And she liked it very much. So she told her assistant to buy the scarf that cost US$8.
Immediately, after she has bought the US$8 scarf, some of the other men and women also bought the scarf. The men bought it for their wives.
The department store workers also bought the scarves until they were out of stock.
More scarves were ordered, and when the department store opened the next day, they were no longer US$8 but US$20 then US$40 then US$100.
But still, there were huge crowds lining up to buy the scarf that now costs US$100 per scarf (when it was originally worth US$8).
- What happened here? Princess Diana set the lead in fashion and others follow.
- Many people had great faith in the fashion taste of Princess Diana.
- What more when we should be having faith in a great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
Our Lord Jesus, who is more important than Kings and Queens, set the lead to Go and Touch and Believe, so we need to follow.
Jn 14:12
“The truth is, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.”
The question is “Do you believe in Jesus?”
If you do, then according to the above scripture, we should be doing the same works as Jesus did and even much more than He did because Jesus is now with the Father God.
The anointing is now with us just as it was upon Jesus for:
Luke 4:18
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for He has appointed me to preach Good News to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released,
That the blind see, that the downtrodden will be freed from their oppressors,
And that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.”
Application:
If you say you are a Believer, lets Really Believe God for the greater works and a greater demonstration of His Anointing.
Remember, we need to Go, then only the anointing will be released. Our Believe, Our Faith will be the trigger that releases the anointing in the ministry.
Conclusion
Do you want to release the anointing of God in your lives and through your lives?
Begin to Go and Do the works of a Believer.
We are all heirs of the Kingdom of God according to Romans 8:17 – we are heirs of God. And because we are heirs, whatever God has given to Jesus, He has given to us.
Never say we cannot. God is not a liar. His Word will not lie.
Ephesians 5:1 – Be imitators of God
Gal 2:20 – Have the faith of the Son of God
Phil 2:5 – we now have the mind of Christ.
Let us Go and Talk/Preach.
Let us Go and Walk.
Let us Go and See.
Let us Go and Touch.
Let us Go and Believe.
