THE FOUR LETTER WORD
“Flow with the Holy Spirit Rob”
What a weekend we had last week. It was awesome to see God moving with the young people. It was great to see almost 700 people come through these doors as we had the opportunity to host the city.
Tonight we are going top look at a dangerous subject. A subject that is like a plaque to many young even some of you here tonight. This thing we are going to look at, young people cringe when they have to do it, they make excuses to back out of it. Tonight we are going to look at the dreaded curse word WORK.
Genesis 2
1 So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed. 2On the seventh day, having finished his task, God rested from all his work. 3And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from his work of creation. 4This is the account of the creation of the heavens and the earth.
God is a worker.
Lets look at a couple of words tonight
Slack, slacker, lazy, passive, apathetic, loser, lukewarm, slofulness, procrastination
The number one enemy against Jolgen is passiveness
God did not call you to do nothing
The enemy is not interested in you stopping what you are doing, but he is interested in when we start doing something for God
The enemy wants to keep us from doing good things for God
Proverbs 18:9
9He who is loose and slack in his work is brother to him who is a destroyer and [1] he who does not use his endeavors to heal himself is brother to him who commits suicide. –AMP-
9Slack habits and sloppy work are as bad as vandalism. –MSG-
If you look at some of the biggest youth churches in North America. They didn’t just get big because they good singing, a place to meet, great speakers. They grew because people worked to see growth come. They got a vision from God and worked to see it happen
God worked six days and rested one (Biblical Pattern)
The devil is trying get us to buy into an effortless society
God has called us to work
If will begin to catch this message we will begin to see a major breakthrough if we are willing to work, a heart and mind to work
Proverbs 10
4Lazy people are soon poor; hard workers get rich.
You need to work to see things happen. Marriage, friends, abs of steel, money
Tonight we are going to look at a couple of areas of our life.
In our generation work has become a curse word(call them a worker)
Spiritual Life, Campus Life, Home Life
God hates a life that is out of balance
Working out big chest, small legs
Luke 6
40A student is not greater than the teacher. But the student who works hard will become like the teacher.
Look at all the shortcuts we try to take to make things happen because we don’t want to work at them
We want a free ride!
But on the flip side if it is something that we want we are willing to move heaven and earth to make it happen Bus, walk, crawl, to be with girls, friends. Young people will work at what they want to do(snow board, pierce)
When it comes to an event can’t go unless you pay pastor Rob
Proverbs 21
5The thoughts of the [steadily] diligent tend only to plenteousness, but everyone who is impatient and hasty hastens only to want.
What does diligence mean
The quality of being diligent; carefulness; careful attention; -- the opposite of negligence.
2. Interested and persevering application; devoted and painstaking effort to accomplish what is undertaken; assiduity in service.
conscientiousness in paying proper attention to a task; giving the degree of care required in a given situation 2: persevering determination to perform a task;
Our problem is our mind is like a television with 90 channels
You need to work to get what you want
One of the devils greatest words is “LATER”
If we are going to grow as a youth church and as individuals we need to work at it
Spiritual Life
Matthew 25
The Story of the Virgins
1"God’s kingdom is like ten young virgins who took oil lamps and went out to greet the bridegroom. 2Five were silly and five were smart. 3The silly virgins took lamps, but no extra oil. 4The smart virgins took jars of oil to feed their lamps. 5The bridegroom didn’t show up when they expected him, and they all fell asleep.
Q: When you become a Christian does it mean you instantly become stupid not wise
For us to grow and you to grow you need to carry some extra oil
Five of these virgins were willing to go the extra mile
Slacker, hard worker-people who have a vision from God go the extra mile, those who don’t do just enough to get by
God is not just interested in you having a little quite time of prayer. He wants you to get some extra oil so when you go out you can begin to give out and encourage other people
You think youth is boring you is the youth group
Caring extra oil is work. It doesn’t just happen. They had to carry the oil
We don’t want to carry extra oil because is to much work and labour
You need to begin to bring extra oil to begin to minister to the youth of the city
Verse 5
5The bridegroom didn’t show up when they expected him, and they all fell asleep.
If you don’t get what you want are you going to persevere
In your spiritual life you need to bring extra oil
Part of the worship team, small group leader, guest service team. You need to be bringing extra oil.
Verse 7
7"The ten virgins got up and got their lamps ready. 8The silly virgins said to the smart ones, "Our lamps are going out; lend us some of your oil.’
9"They answered, "There might not be enough to go around; go buy your own.’
Why do we always have to experience a disaster before we open our bibles and pray
If you want to get more oil you will have to give something up to get it, it’s going to cost you something
Ephesians 5
15Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people),16Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil.
17Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is.
The number one killer of Christians today is I’ll pray about it
I don’t need to pray about reading my bible, going to church, worshiping God, serving someone, being in a small group
Procrastination is linked with idol ness
Verse 10
10"They did, but while they were out buying oil, the bridegroom arrived. When everyone who was there to greet him had gone into the wedding feast, the door was locked.
11"Much later, the other virgins, the silly ones, showed up and knocked on the door, saying, "Master, we’re here. Let us in.’
12"He answered, "Do I know you? I don’t think I know you.’
13"So stay alert. You have no idea when he might arrive.
When the door shuts it’s over with
There are seasons in your life but when they are over they are over
Kids
If we are going to grow as a youth church you need to have your spiritual life in order, you need to have some extra oil, some focus, a plan
You know what makes a great leader some one with some extra oil and a plan
6-1, but we want 1-6
Who is the richest guy in America
Works 50-80 hours a week
Success comes through work
Our greatest danger is if we look back at our success as a youth church
Our greatest enemy is we arte one of the largest groups in the city
It doesn’t take the Holy Spirit to quite, but to persevere
