Summary: There are disputes over how often we observe the Lord’s supper, disputes over what type of bread, what type of wine, or juice to use. But there should be no dispute that we should observe the Lord’s supper in a right attitude!

A.T. Pierson (A pastor in the 1800’s)

The link between the cross and the crown is the Table of the Lord. Do not forget when you sit down at the communion, that the bread and cup point back to Christ’s accomplished work, and forward to your accomplished salvation.

I. Our attitude should be one of Remembrance (Luke 22.19; 1 Cor 11.24,25)

A) Of His Life

Sinless

Sacred

Obedient (Philippians 2.8)

Because of His obedience we can take part in the promises of God.

Transition: Jesus came as the God man to live a perfect sinless life so that he could die the perfect sacrifice.

B) Of His Death

1) His Death our life

2) Without the shedding of blood there can be no remission of sin

Heb 9.22

3) It was the blood of the Passover lamb that caused the death angel to pass over the children of Israel.

Jesus is our Passover lamb. 1 Cor 5.7

a) We remember that Jesus has destroyed death and caused it to pass over us with no effect.

C) Of His Resurrection

1) Our hope

a) we were hopeless Christ became our hope

1 lie you are a liar, 1 murder a murderer

1 sin a sinner.

Romans 3.23 All have sinned all fall short of the glory of God.

The good thing is my hope is not on what I can do or what I as a sinner have done.

My hope is built on nothing less

Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.

I dare not trust the sweetest frame,

But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

Refrain

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,

All other ground is sinking sand;

All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness seems to hide His face,

I rest on His unchanging grace.

In every high and stormy gale,

My anchor holds within the veil.

Refrain

His oath, His covenant, His blood,

Support me in the whelming flood.

When all around my soul gives way,

He then is all my Hope and Stay.

Refrain

When He shall come with trumpet sound,

Oh may I then in Him be found.

Dressed in His righteousness alone,

Faultless to stand before the throne.

2) Our future

II. Our attitude should be one of Reflection (Ponder or meditate)

Psalm 1.2 “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night”

A) Examination (psalm 139.23) ( are you willing to ask God to search you)

1) 1 Cor 11.28

2) Do you have something to Remember?

a) Jesus died

b) But have you accepted?

c) Paul also says examine yourself daily

When doctors examine a patient who have no symptoms they are doing preventive care..

1) Do you have something that needs to be cut out by God’s scalpel His holy word

2) Is There something that needs to be sacrificed on God’s altar so that you can fully serve Him?

3) Do you have something against a brother

a) Matt 5.23, 24 leave your offering and be reconciled (make up)

4) Attitude is everything

B) Implementation

1) How do you live every day.

2) Do you live every moment as though someone died for you?

III. Our attitude should be one of Reverence

A) Definition respect felt: feelings of deep respect or devotion

1) Worthy of worship worthy of praise worthy of honor and glory.

2) Rev 5.12

Angels exalting the Lamb

“Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.”

The popular saying is “Attitude determines altitude.”

It is what happens to us but how we respond to what happens that is so important in life.

How today have you responded to God?

Has it been in an attitude of remembrance, and reflection, that have both led to reverence?

If you have never asked Jesus into your heart then you have nothing to remember, nothing to reflect, and no way to revere God.

Today Jesus stands at the door and knocks

He says in Revelation 3.20 “Behold I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with me.

Jesus wants to celebrate with you tonight won’t you let Him in.
