MATTHEW 14:22-25 “SHUT UP DEVIL, GOD’S JUST NOT SHOWED UP YET”
A) There are three facts that we need to reckon with about the devil .......
* One: He is real! * James 4:7 “Submit yourself ...” * 1 Pet. 5:8 “Be sober ...”
* In 2 Cor. 11:14 “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”
* “Transformed” means to transfigure or disguise; transform self; to change.
* If the devil had come to Eve in the Garden of Eden in his true form, no doubt she would have
screamed and fled in fear ... But he came to her in the form of a serpent .......
* Which at that time was the most subtle, most cunning of the beasts of the field!
B) Also, when the devil came to Jesus after His baptism in Matt. 4:1-11 .......
* He appeared as one who had respect for God ... He even quoted Scripture, but not correctly!
* Notice the Bible says he can transform himself into an angel of light!
* Light is the emblem of purity and holiness in the Bible!
* So Paul is saying that Satan takes on the outward appearance of a pure, holy personality!
* But inwardly he is a deadly deceiver and destroyer!
C) By taking on the appearance of purity and holiness, he easily leads men astray!
* We should learn from this ... That the devil is a powerful being, capable of assuming various
forms as he pleases! * He may appear as an angel of light, or a roaring lion, or a destroyer!
* We should never expect Satan to appear in his true form!
* He never shows himself openly as the wicked one, an abominable one, with black character full
of evil, murder and lies!
* If he appeared in this form, he’d defeat what he is attempting to do; namely damn ever soul that
he can to hell! * Yes ... The devil is real!
* A man said to R.A. Torrey one time, “I don’t believe there is a devil.”
* Torrey said, “Try serving God for one day and you’ll change your mind!” * The devil is real!
D) Two: The devil is after God’s people! * How? * Through sickness and suffering ... Job ...
* Peter: Luke 22:31-34 “Simon, Simon, behold Satan hath desired to have you, that he may ...”
* The devil tried to stop Paul many times, but never succeeded till God was through with Paul!
* Three: We are to do battle with him! * Eph. 6:11 “Put on the whole armour of God .......”
* Resist him ... Don’t give in to him ... God will give us victory over the devil!
E) Satan tries to get us believe that God doesn’t care about us and has forgotten us!
* But I’m here to tell the devil, “Shut up devil, God’s just not showed up yet!”
* God is still in control ... Rev. 19:6 says, “Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.”
* The devil may be powerful, but God is more powerful! * The devil is wise, but God is all wise!
* The devil may be able to pull us down, but God is able to lift us up!
* The devil may be able to tear us apart, but God can put us back together!
* Let’s look at some people in Scripture where it seems that God was not present .......
(1) RIGHT HERE IN OUR TEXT – THE DISCIPLES IN THE SHIP TOSSED WITH WAVES!
* John the Baptist has been murdered ... And in v.12 ... * Then in v.13 ... Jesus was crushed!
* But the crowd followed Jesus when they heard of where He was at – v.14 .......
A) That led to the feeding of the 5000 ... v.15-21 ....... * After that ... v.22-23 .......
* v.24 ... The storm came and the waves were tossing the ship ... The disciples were afraid!
* The devil got on Peter’s shoulder and said, Where is Jesus now when you need Him?”
* Peter shouted out, “Shut up devil, God’s just not showed up yet!” * v.25 ... God shows up!
(2) MOSES – EXO. 14! * Moses was sent by God to do a job!
* For many years the children of Israel had been in bondage ... They were slaves to Pharaoh!
* Moses went and gave the message to Pharaoh, “That God said let My people go.”
A) Pharaoh would not take heed to the message from God, so God had to send His wrath!
* Water to blood (magicians). * Frogs in the house. * Lice-man and beast (magicians couldn’t).
* Swarms of flies. * Bad sickness on the cattle (grievous murrain), all cattle died except for
the Israelite’s cattle.
* Ashes of furnace became small dust and made terrible blisters on man and beast.
* Boils came upon all the Egyptians. * Pestilence. * Grievous hail and fire ran along the ground.
* Locusts were so many you couldn’t see the earth. * Thick darkness in all of Egypt. (Illus.)
B) The first born died! * Not one house in Egypt where death did not come!
* Pharaoh finally let God’s people go! * Thousands of God’s people marched out of Egypt!
* They went on their way toward the Promised Land, but Pharaoh was in hot pursuit!
* Moses and the children of Israel got to the shores of the Red Sea!
* They were helpless and hopeless! * In front of them was the Red Sea .......
* Either side of them, mountains ... Behind them, Pharaoh and his army!
C) They were scared and cried out to Moses, “Why did you bring us here to die?”
* “Were there no graves in Egypt? It would’ve been better for us to serve as slaves in Egypt than
to die out here in the wilderness!” * What’s Moses to do?
* The devil said, “What are you gonna do now, Moses, you’re gonna kill all these people!”
* Moses says, “Shut up devil, God’s just not showed up yet!” * Guess what? * God shows up!
* They marched across the Red Sea on dry ground, and Pharaoh and his army dies in the Red Sea!
(3) SHADRACH, MESHACH, ABEDNEGO – DAN. 3!
* At one point during Nebuchadnezzar’s reign, he built an image of gold (probably of himself) and
set it in the plain of Dura! * It was 95 ft. high and the king set out a decree out of the palace .......
A) Everyone in the land came and bowed down, except three Hebrew boys!
* They refused to bow down and the king got very angry told these boys they were going in the
fire! * The king ordered the furnace to be heated 7 times hotter than it normally was heated!
* The king ordered them to be cast into the fire! * The devil said, “Boys, y’all better think this
over, y’all gonna burn up in that furnace.” * Were they afraid? * No sir!
* Shadrach said, “Shut up devil, God’s just not showed up yet!” * You know what? * God showed
up ... And He showed out! * They were dancing in the fire! * Finish the story .......
(4) DANIEL IN THE DEN OF LIONS – DAN. 6!
* Darius set 120 men or princes over his kingdom, and over these 120 were 3 presidents of whom
Daniel was first. * He was preferred because an excellent spirit was upon him. (6:3)
* The princes and presidents sought to find fault with Daniel, but the only fault they could find was
that he prayed too much! * So they go to the king and asks the king to set out a decree!
* In that decree it stated that no one should be worshiped but the king. (He was tricked)
A) Daniel knew that the writing was signed, but he still prayed to God as he always did!
* So these men kept watch on Daniel and they saw and heard him pray again.
* They go back to the king and report that Daniel is violating the decree!
B) Because of that, Daniel was sentenced to be thrown into the den of lions!
* While Daniel was on his way to the den, the devil got in his face and said, “See what your
praying got you into ... Now you’re gonna pay with your life!”
* Daniel replied back, “Shut up devil, God’s just not showed up yet!”
* Before Daniel got there, God done went to work! * He touched the lions’ head and said .......
* “One of My servants is coming to spend a night here ... Be nice to him ... Let him sleep well ...
You make him comfortable ... Let him use you for a pillow.”
C) It seems like the lions nod their heads in obedience!
* They finally arrive at the den of lions ... The devil says again, “Goodbye Daniel, you’re history!”
* Daniel says, “Shut up devil, God’s just not showed up yet!”
* In a few moments the iron door opens and Daniel is cast into the den of lions!
* The lions welcome him ... He lies down and sleeps like a baby all night long!

CLOSE
A) Christian ... When the devil comes to you talking his junk, put him in his place!
* He tells you, “Look at the storm you’re in ... You think God cares, don’t you?”
* Tell him, “Shut up devil, God’s just not showed up yet!” * Oh, He’ll show up!
* Look at our text again ... Jesus was walking all over that storm!
* What was over the disciples’ head were under the Lord’s feet!
B) I’m not gonna listen to the devil talk trash anymore!
* SHUT UP DEVIL, GOD’S JUST NOT SHOWED UP YET!
