EXAMINING YOUR LIFE
Proverbs 3:1-12
(Devotional Series 1)
These are three principles for truly successful and happy Christian living, and we can hardly do better than test our lives by the standards laid down here.
I. Is yours a sanctified life? (1-4)
God’s law and will should constantly be in our minds and hearts, governing our every thought, word and action.
II. Is yours a guided life? (5-6)
God wants to lead us in "the path of righteousness" (Psalm 23:3). The secret of enjoying his guidance is seen in these verses: confidence in his power and willingness to lead; reliance upon his wisdom and not upon our own frail human understanding; obedience to his will insofar as he reveals it to us.
III. Is yours a consecrated life? (7-10)
The thought here seems to be that the Lord wants the first claim upon our gifts and talents. He asks us to put them at His disposal, so that He may use them in His service.
IV. Is yours disciplined life? (11-12)
The only way to make progress in the classroom or in sports is to be willing to have our faults "corrected." God wants to use his Word, our own experience, and often the advice of others, to discipline us and make us better Christians.
Prayer: Lord, make me into the sort of Christian who "finds favor" with You.
Keynote: He leads and he loves.
