Keep away from your Delilah
Dr. Fernando Cabrera
Judges 16:4-22
Delilah means lit. “the weak one or the longing one”. There are woman in some men’s life that when they are around them they make them feel like “the weak one”. There are certain women in men’s life that are like kryptonite, they sap your strength away. The same is true for some men with women. Samson had a Fatal Attraction. He ends up sleeping with the enemy. The Devil wants you in his territory so he may have domain over you. Are you flirting with a fatal attraction? A wise man once said, “stop flirting with sin, it may kiss you back!” Satan never gives you gifts, because at the end you end up paying dearly for them.
Mistake #1: He failed to DISCONNECT
Samson failed to disconnect from what made him weak. What do you need to disconnect from?
Stay away from slippery path
The bible tells us that Samson went to the valley of Sorek. “Sorek” was the place of choice red grape, which connotes pleasure. There is pleasure in sexual sin for a season, but its grapes are quick to ferment and sour (Prov. 5:3-5; 6:25-26). Samson failed to avoid triggers. By going to the valley of Sorek and surrounding himself with the wrong person, he set himself up for a huge fall. Avoid people, place and things that lead you to a slippery path.
Mistake #2: He failed to avoid the TRIGGERS
Guard your heart (v.5)
In verse 5, we are told that she “entice him”. It literally meant “to find an opening, a point of vulnerability”. We are warned in James 1:14, “But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed (to bait a hook) by his own lust”. Keep in mind that SEX IS A SURRENDER OF THE BODY. The enemy knows your weak points, weak moment, and weak tendencies. Fish bite different baits. Bass love worms and shiny lures. Trout will bite for flies, spinners and salmon eggs. Crappie or perch prefer minnows. Samson always was lured by the promise of sex. What is your bait? The ultimate goal of an enticement is to bind you with the purpose of afflicting you (v.6). He set out to conquest, but at the end he was the one to be conquered. Most men think they can control sexual sins, but soon find themselves in complete bondage. Look at what Samson said ”If they bind me…(v.7)."Sexual sins will take you father than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, cost you more than you want to pay. Binds you and then blinds you and grinds you (your sanity). It will make you blind in the Spirit and loose your discernment. It will bring agony, torture and torment to your conscience. You can only stay away from chains when you abstain.
Mistake #3: He failed to protect his HEART
Make a covenant with your eyes (v.17)
Samson had made a covenant with God through his Nazarite vow. Samson’s hair was only an outward symbol of his inward commitment to God. Job had made a commitment with his eyes when he said: "I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl." (Job 31:1).What is the secret of our strength? The book of Hebrews 12:2 said it best, “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…”. God wants you to have one holy passion and devotion for Christ. Then and only then, will you find the pleasure that will out satisfy any other pleasure in life.
Mistake #4: He focus on the wrong OBJ
