I Peter 2:2
Topic: Desire the Word of God
When we were born into this world as newborn babies, one of the first food that we were fed with was milk. Usually the newborn baby is either breast-fed by the mother, or bottle fed with milk. The reason why milk is fed to newborn babies is because it has some good nutrients for the body such as vitamins A,C,D, proteins, carbohydrates, iron, sodium, and many other good nutrients that is good for the body. Milk is a good drink because it builds up the body and helps it to grow stronger.
Now, just as there is a birth into this world, which is called the physical birth, there is also another birth that is spiritual. This spiritual birth is the birth into the Kingdom of God. This spiritual birth is the second birth that we go through that is being called “born again.” Being born again means to be born of the Spirit of God. You are born again, you are born of the Spirit of God when you believe and receive Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior.
Just as a newborn baby is fed with milk to help them to grow, God has some milk, some spiritual milk that He wants his children to drink and to grow up on. And the spiritual milk that God wants His children to drink and to grow up on is the Word of God. I Peter 2:2 says, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.”
To grow in the grace and in the knowledge of God, we must have a desire to drink from the Word of God. To drink from the Word of God we must :
1.Read the Word. Isaiah 34:16 says to “Seek ye out the book of the Lord and read….”
2.Study the Word. 2nd Timothy 2:15 says to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God; a workman needeth not to be ashamed dividing the word of truth.”
3.Mediate on the Word. Joshua 1:8 says, “The book of the law shall no depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein; for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and shall have good success.”
4.Believe in the Word. Romans 1:16 says “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ(the Word of God), for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth. To the Jews first, and then also to the Greeks.
5.Live and Do the Word. James 1:22 says “Be ye doers of the Word and not just hearers only.”
We must drink from the Word of God because in 2nd Timothy 3:16 says that “All scriptures is given by the inspiration of God, and it is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be perfect thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” If we want to grow in Jesus Christ, we must desire the Word of God.
You see, it is God’s will that you come to know Him personally and that you learn how to live for Him according His Word. God does not want you ignorant of His Word. He wants you to know His Word. Ephesians 5:17 says “Wherefore be ye not unwise; but understanding what the will of the Lord is.”
Now the question is, “How can I understand the Word of God?”
Before we read and study the Word of God, we should always pray first, asking God to give us the understanding of His Word.
Psalm 119:18 says, “Open my eyes that I may behold the wonderous things out of thy law.”
We should ask God to open up our understanding, ask him to help us to see the reality of His Word.
Jeremiah 33:3 says, thus says the Lord, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show you great and mighty things which thou knowest not.”
The reason why we should pray before we read and study God’s word because it is the Holy Spirit who teaches and gives us the understanding of God’s Word.
John 14:26 says, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, heshall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you.”
Even though we as Christians are admonished to study the Word of God, that does not mean we should stop going to church, to Sunday School, to Bible Study to be taught and learn the Word of God. Romans 10:16 says that “Faith cometh by hearing and by hearing the Word of God.”
You may say that the Word of God is out-dated. But God’s Word is never outdated. Hebrews 13:8 says “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” You see, Jesus Christ is an everlasting Savior. He is Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Also in Malachi 3:6, it says, “For I am the Lord, I changed not.” Now if Jesus is the Lord who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and He changes not, then His Word never changes.
When Jesus told Nicodemus that He had to be born again about 2,000 years ago, Jesus is telling us the same thing today that in the year of 2003, that we must be, gotta be born again if we want to see and enter the kingdom of God.
When Jesus told his disciples that He was the Way, the Truth, and the Life, He is telling us the same thing today in the year of 2003 that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man can come unto the Father but by me.
God’s Word- the Word of God- The Holy Bible is the only book on planet earth that has never changed For Jesus has said that Heaven and Earth shall pass away, but my Word shall never pass.
Last but not least, after we have learned his Word, then we should preach his Word, telling men and women and boys and girls that Jesus Christ is Lord, the Son of God, the Savior of the World who died upon the cross for our sins and rose from the dead with all power in his hands, and that if we put our trust in Him, we shall have salvation and be saved!!!!!!!
