Thru prayer, Jesus sought to secure the success of His mission.
The success of Jesus’ mission is secured thru prayer.

JESUS’ GLORY(:1-5, 6)
—Explanation/Argumentation:(:1-5, 6)
:1—“These things Jesus spoke; & lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Thy Son, that the Son may glorify Thee,”
FATHER—Glorified
:2—“even as Thou gavest Him authority over all mankind, that to all whom Thou hast given Him, He may give eternal life.”
:3—“And this is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, & Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.”
GIFT—Eternal Life
:4—“I glorified Thee on the earth, having accomplished the work which Thou hast given Me to do.”
ACCOMPLISHMENT—Work assigned
:5—“And now, glorify Thou Me together with Thyself, Father, with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was.”
PRIOR STATE—Heavenly Glory
Jn. 1:1-2—“In the beginning was the Word, & the Word was with God, & the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.”
Php. 2:5-7—“Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, & being made in the likeness of men.”

“Manifested”—???????—To make manifest or visible or known what has been hidden or unknown, to manifest, whether by words, or deeds, or in any other way.
Jn. 14:7-9—““If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, & have seen Him.” Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, & it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, & yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how do you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”

:6—“I manifested Thy name to the men whom Thou gavest Me out of the world; Thine they were, & Thou gavest them to Me, & they have kept Thy word.”
:6a—“The men whom Thou gavest Me out of the world”
“Men”—LEADERSHIP
“Out of the world”—OTHERWORLDLY
:6b—“Thine they were, & Thou gavest them to Me,”

:9—“I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom Thou hast given Me; for they are Thine;”

JESUS’ PROTECTION(:11-12)
—Explanation/Argumentation:(:11-12)
:11—“And I am no more in the world; & yet they themselves are in the world, & I come to Thee. Holy Father, keep them in Thy name, the name which Thou hast given Me, that they may be one, even as We are.”
“I am no more in the world”—
—Jesus lived in the Father’s presence & knew He was bound for the Father’s presence.
“Holy Father, Keep them in Thy name”—
:12—“While I was with them, I was keeping them in Thy name which Thou hast given Me; & I guarded them, & not one of them perished but the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.”
“I guarded them”—
“Guarded/Kept”—???????—To guard; To observe for one’s self something to escape. Indicates safe custody & often implies assault from without.
“Not one of them perished....”—
“Perished/Lost”—????????—To destroy in the sense of to lose.
“But the son of perdition”—
“Perdition”—???????—Destroying, utter destruction; A perishing, ruin, destruction.
Even though this one(Judas Iscariot) was lost (“perished”) to God, it was in fulfillment of the Scriptures themselves(God’s will). He perished being the “son of perdition”.
“That the Scripture might be fulfilled.”—
Acts 1:15-22—“And at this time Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren (a gathering of about one hundred & twenty persons was there together), & said, “Brethren, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. “For he was counted among us, & received his portion in this ministry.” (Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness; & falling headlong, he burst open in the middle & all his bowels gushed out. And it became known to all who were living in Jerusalem; so that in their own language that field was called Hakeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) “For it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘LET HIS HOMESTEAD BE MADE DESOLATE, AND LET NO MAN DWELL IN IT’; &, ‘HIS OFFICE LET ANOTHER MAN TAKE.’ “It is therefore necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in & out among us-- beginning with the baptism of John, until the day that He was taken up from us--one of these should become a witness with us of His resurrection.””
Ps. 109:6-13—“Appoint a wicked man over him; And let an accuser stand at his right hand. When he is judged, let him come forth guilty; And let his prayer become sin. Let his days be few; Let another take his office. Let his children be fatherless, And his wife a widow. Let his children wander about & beg; And let them seek sustenance far from their ruined homes. Let the creditor seize all that he has; And let strangers plunder the product of his labor. Let there be none to extend lovingkindness to him, Nor any to be gracious to his fatherless children. Let his posterity be cut off; In a following generation let their name be blotted out.”

JESUS’ JOY(:13)
—Explanation:(:13)
:13—“But now I come to Thee; & these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy made full in themselves.”
“My Joy”—
?What is Jesus’ joy?—Serving the Father’s will & fulfilling His ordained destiny as Messiah, Priest, King & Savior. Declaring God’s salvation to a lost & sinsick world.
“Made full”—Complete
Jesus’ disciples can & should have the fullness of Jesus’ joy in themselves. The disciple’s witness is to Jesus’ joy, which He had in the Father’s direction.
Jesus’ joy comes by means of hearing the Father’s word as given thru the ?filter? of Jesus, God in flesh.
Argumentation:
Jn. 16:22-24—““Therefore you too now have sorrow; but I will see you again, & your heart will rejoice, & no one takes your joy away from you. “And in that day you will ask Me no question. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you shall ask the Father for anything, He will give it to you in My name. “Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask, & you will receive, that your joy may be made full.”
Rom. 14:15-17—“For if because of food your brother is hurt, you are no longer walking according to love. Do not destroy with your food him for whom Christ died. Therefore do not let what is for you a good thing be spoken of as evil; for the kingdom of God is not eating & drinking, but righteousness & peace & joy in the Holy Spirit.”
