Liberty in Christ
We are Free
John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
I. Am I Free to do what I want ?
A. Personl Yes ! you are Free to make to make your own choices
B. You are eternally Sucure in Jesus Christ
Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Eph 2:88For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9Not of works, lest any man should boast.
C. You are not bound under the OldTtestament Law !
Gal 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmast.
II. However
A. The liberty you have in Jesus Christ is not a License to SIN
Gal 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
B. Don’t allow your freedom to make you a servant to sin
Rom 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
C . You Liberty is so you can serve God
1 Peter 2:16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
III.How dose my Freedom affect me personally ?
A. You are free to make your own choices but if you choice sin
you will pay the price. Sin will cause you to
1.You will bear no fruit
John 15: I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
2.God will chasten you
Heb 12:5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
6For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
8But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
3. God will allow you to reap as you have sown
Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
B. God will get the Glory one you or another
Are you a vessel of honor or of dishonor ?
2 Tim 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
IV. How dose this affect outers ?
A. You are a Testimony for Good or bad
Rom 14:7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.
B. You are to aviod things that could cause some one to Stumble
1Cor 8:9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
V. What things shold I do on not do?
What is wright/wrong, what are
"Gray areas"
A. Am I being brought under the power of something that should not be controlling your life?"
1 Cor 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
B. Can I ask God to Bless this ?
Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
