Your WILL BE DONE
I want to remind you that God has a wonderful plan for your life. I want to remind you that God has a wonderful plan for your family and friends. I want to remind you that God’s will is "good, acceptable and perfect" Romans 12:2. Prayer has much to do the will of God. If we are praying for the glory of God, we will want God’s will to be done. If we are praying to accomplish God’s purposes, we will want God’s will to be done. Because all of us are human and tend to be self-centered, we have a bent towards wanting our own will to be done instead of God’s. This little phrase in the Lord’s Prayer is a reminder, that our prayers are to be centered on God’s plan and not ours!
This morning we want to look at 3 things about praying about your will be done. We will make it simple with the word, "ASK."
1. First we need to ASK ACCORDING TO GOD’S WILL - 1 John 5:14-15 "And this is the confidence, assurance, self-confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he hears us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him."
God’s desire is for us to be confident when we pray. God desires that we expect positive answers when we pray. We are pray in faith. Mark 11:24 God wants us to be convinced when we pray. We are CERTAIN that God will answer our prayers when we know that are asking in God’s will. It says if we ask any thing according to his will, he hears us:
So we can ask how we know that what we are asking for is according to the will of God. We need to know what the will of God is, in order to ask for the right things. And the place we discover the will of God is in the Word of God.
It is a common temptation of Satan to make us give up the reading of the Word and prayer when our enjoyment is gone; as if it were of no use to read the Scriptures when we do not enjoy them, and as if it were no use to pray when we have no spirit of prayer. The truth is that in order to enjoy the Word, we ought to continue to read it, and the way to obtain a spirit of prayer is to continue praying. The less we read the Word of God, the less we desire to read it, and the less we pray, the less we desire to pray. --George Mueller
Can I say with compassion and no one taking offense that we are weak, questioning prayers, because we do not read of God’s Word to develop our confidence? Story of Ruth and God’s working in her life because she chooses to change. All of us I am trusting today want to know what we can pray for that will be God’s will knowing that God will answer? It is in His book that we have to take time to read.
Do you pray for the church services? What can we pray for the church services here, knowing that what we pray is the will of God? Here are five with Scripture to back them
a. Christians will come to church. Hebrews 10:25 Hebrews 10:25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other.
b. That those without Christ will come and hear the Word of God. 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord isn’t slow to do what he promised, as some people think. Rather, he is patient for your sake. He doesn’t want to destroy anyone but wants all people to have an opportunity to turn to him and change the way they think and act.”
c. The Pastor will be able to preach what God directs him to. 2 Tim 4:2 “Preach the word of God.”
d. All will come to trust Christ as Savior. JN 3:36 “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life.”
e. Pray that the saved will obey the teaching of God’s Word. Jam 1:22 “Listen to the word and do what it says.”
2. Second we need to SEEK GOD’S WILL. Jam 1:5-8
There are times when we do not know how to pray. We are not sure what to ask for. Sometimes we have decisions to make, and we don’t know what to do. That’s when we come to God and pray the way James tells us to pray. Vs. 5 when we don’t know God’s will, especially during times of trial, we are to ask our heavenly Father, who gives wisdom generously. And notice when God gives wisdom, you don’t get a sermon with it! He doesn’t scold or chide you. As you pray, God gives you wisdom. He promises to show you His will.
3. Third we need to kneel down IN surrender TO GOD’S WILL LK 22:42 Christ’s prayer for God’s will. MT 6:10 - "Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven." Now when we are to kneel in surrender to God’s will, does not necessarily we have to get on our knees. In our hearts our ultimate goal should be to ask for, and to do the will of God! If we are truly sold out to God as believers, we will only want to ask for things that are truly His will. Therefore we must be willing for God to answer us with the word "no". When will God say "no" to your requests? He will say "no" when you are asking for selfish reasons. James 4:4 God will say "no", if you asking contrary to His revealed Word. God will say "no" to your requests, when His will is different than yours. Remember our Lord Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. He knew what misery, humiliation, pain, and suffering lay ahead for Him at the cross. So he prayed. Jesus wanted a way out, but realized that there was no other way. He was willing to accept God’s perfect will, which for Him was the cross. How willing are you to accept God’s will? We are taught to pray, "Your will be done." Do you know how God’s will is done in Heaven? God’s will is done immediately and completely! As a Christian is that your desire? The most important thing is that God’s will be done.
Your will be done, Lord, in my church. Your will be done, Lord, in my family. Your will be done, Lord, in my country. Your will be done, Lord, on my job. Your will be done, Lord, in my life. Your will be done, Lord, in my personal relationships.
God has given you a great opportunity if you are a believer. The privilege is to pray according to the will of God.
