JUST AS I AM

INTRODUCTION
“Just As I Am” was Roy’s favorite hymn to sing. In most hymnals there are 5 verses full of meaning and surrender to God. It is a song that helps us remember that Christ cleans our souls with His blood and allows us to reach our Heavenly Father. What we don’t realize about this wonderful hymn is that there are actually two more verses to the song that we do not sing:
“Just as I am—thy love unknown Has broken every barrier down; Now to be thine, yea, thine alone, O Lamb of God, I come!
Just as I am, of that free love, The breadth, length, depth, and height to prove, Here for a season, then above, O Lamb of God, I come!” (http://www.bartleby.com/246/324.html)
That last verse of the song seems to fit with our thoughts today. We are here for a season and then above. “Just As I Am” describes the life we live with aches, pains, dark spots on our souls, conflicts, and doubts. Yet, that last verse talks about how we live this life and then move above. We move to Heaven with God. We know what we are here on Earth, but what are we in Heaven... what is life like there?

God’s Word promises that Heaven with God will be like nothing we have ever known or dreamed of.
1. God will dwell with us and we will live together
2. There will be no tears, death, crying, or pain
3. Water flows from the Throne of God and provides healing
4. God will light the Universe
5. We will live with God forever and ever
These words from the Bible are meant to give us hope. We know that this life is full of aches and pains and sorrows. The hymn “Just As I Am” poetically states that as well. We also know that we have hope in God. The hymn “Just As I Am” and Scripture tell us that Jesus’ blood was shed for us to remove any spots in our souls and to give us confidence and strength in this life. The hymn and Scripture also tell us that all the barriers have been broken down and when we leave this Earth, we are with God forever. We are here for a season and then forever with God.
