THIS MESSAGE:

D) THE BENEFIT OF THE GOSPEL

As believers we must give ourselves to God, but there is more to Christianity than giving. There are great benefits in giving our lives to God.

1. WE HAVE BEEN CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST (6:1-4)

(a) Your old self has been put to death.

(b) Your sins are buried with Christ.

(c) Your sins are cast as far as the east is from the west, never to be brought up again. *PSALM 103:12*

---------------

2. WE ARE UNITED WITH HIM IN HIS RESURRECTION (6:5-10)

(a) You are a victor. Christ is victorious over satan because of His resurrection.

(b) You will not die! (John 11:25-26)

(c) Galatians 2:20 says, "I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in

me." NIV

(d) When we die in Christ, that is when we truly begin to live.

---------------

3. WE HAVE SURRENDERED CONTROL TO A NEW MASTER(6:11-23)

(a) Sin and the flesh are no longer our master.

(b) The flesh no longer dictates to us what we will do.

(c) The master is in control of our destiny. When we think of slave and master, we think of the negative relationship or America’s tainted past of slavery. But, when considering a master, He is the one providing punishment, provision and protection. If that is coming from man it is a bad thing, but coming from God it is marvelous and wonderful.

(d) The master is in control of our destiny.

---------------

4. WE HAVE BEEN SET FREE FROM THE LAW (7:1-25)

(a) The law was never there to save us, it was to point us to our need.

(b) Before Christ the law was all one had to please God.

(c) Obedience to the law does not save us or draw us to God (Relationship)

---------------

5. WE HAVE HAD A CHANGE OF MIND (8:1-17)

(a) The sinful mind is hostile toward God.

(b) We have a different mind set, a different way of thinking.

(c) Our mind is controlled by the Spirit, life and peace.

---------------

6. WE HAVE HOPE THROUGH ETERNAL LIFE (8:18-25)

(a) The present sufferings VS the future hope.

(b) We are adopted as sons.

(c) Liberated from bondage and decay.

---------------

7. WE HAVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (8:26-27)

(a) Helps us in our weakness.

(b) The Spirit groans for us on our behalf what words cannot express. Many will teach that this is the doctrine of praying in tongues, as if the Holy Spirit even needs our tongue and lips to speak to God. The Holy Spirit is speaking and groaning to God when you don’t even know it. I believe that to be a greater miracle than praying in tongues, don’t you?

(c) He searches our heart and our minds and prays for what we need.

---------------

8. WE HAVE GOD MAKING US VICTORIOUS (8:28-39)

(a) God is on our side.

(b) God has the whole thing under control.
