WHY WAS JESUS BORN?

John 1:1-4, 14, 18

Christians Rejoice at Christmas. Rejoicing at Christmas, though, has nothing to do with Bells ringing, Snow on the ground, Presents under the tree, or Visits by Santa. The True Joy of Christmas is found in knowing that Jesus is Born, and Brings A Message Of Life And Love And Victory Over Death. Christmas Has An Atmosphere Of Wonder And Beauty. But Jesus did not come into the world merely to bring wonder and beauty. Jesus Came To Bring Meaning To Life; He Came To Bring The Fulfillment Of God’s Love.

We are going to Explore this subject - The Purpose and Reason for the Coming of the Christ Child to the Earth. Why did he Come into the World? Why was He Born a Baby in the Little Town of Bethlehem? There are Many Ideas and Philosophical Answers that men propose but God Clearly tells us in the Holy Scriptures the Real Reasons Why Christ was Born.

THE THEOLOGICAL TERM FOR WHAT HAPPENED AT CHRISTMAS IS CALLED THE “INCARNATION.” The Prophet Isaiah had Foretold the Incarnation in a Name. By the Holy Spirit He prophesied that the Promised Messiah would be Called “Immanuel,” meaning “God With Us.” The Christian Doctrine of the Incarnation is Clearly Taught in the Bible and is Basic to our Faith. In the Person of Jesus Christ, God has Come to us In The Flesh. In History’s Greatest Miracle, God has Become a True Human Being. John’s Gospel begins by Identifying Jesus as the “Word” (The Logos – The Total of the Revelation of God), who John 1:1-2 “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.

John 1:14 So the Word became human and lived here on earth among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father.

Phil. 2 is one of the Most Powerful Biblical Expressions of the Incarnation …. It Presents Jesus Christ Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: NLT He laid aside his mighty power and glory and appeared in human form.

The Christmas Story is this: In an Obscure little country occupied by the Roman Empire, God Became Human and Lived on the Earth. He Came, Not in Majesty, but as an Infant. There was No Vacancy at the Bethlehem Hilton. His Parents Spent the Night in a Stable. God the Creator Entered His Universe. God Wrapped Himself Up in Human Flesh and Gave Himself to Mankind, The Greatest Christmas Gift Ever. He Identified with People. He is Not a God who is Way off in Space Somewhere but God in Contact with People … Loving People, Touching People at the Point of their Need, Bringing them Comfort and Power. Through Jesus, God is Reaching Out to People with Love, Mercy, Forgiveness, & Healing.

There are Four Statements in the Bible that Address Why Jesus was Born:

I. JESUS CAME TO REVEAL GOD. John 1:18 KJV 18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. (revealed Him/ Made Him known)

Hebrews 1:2-3 God Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; “Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the express image of his person.” Jesus is the Exact Representation of the Invisible God. People often ask about TV and Movie Personalities, “I Wonder what He is really like?” Magazine Racks are full of Stories about Celebrities - giving information about them. People Wonder, “How Can we Know God? How Can we Know what He is Really Like???” The Answer is Simple … Look at Jesus!!! In John 14 He told Philip Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father!

II. JESUS CAME TO REDEEM MANKIND. Gal 4:4-5 4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. Word “Redeem” means “To Buy Back Out of Slavery and Set Free.” Because of Adam’s Sin, All of Humanity was in Bondage to Satan, Sin, Sickness, and Spiritual Death. Christmas Means Jesus was Born into the World so that He Could Give Himself as a Sacrifice, Spill His Blood as the Ransom Price to Purchase our Freedom. Because of Jesus, We are Free. Because of Jesus, We have been Brought into the Family of God. Satan can No Longer Rule and Dominate the Christian because He Has a New Boss, Jesus.

III. JESUS CAME TO DESTROY THE WORKS OF THE DEVIL. 1 John 3:8

b For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Word “destroy” means to “Paralyze” or “Undo.” Christmas means the Defeat of Satan. Christmas means Satan’s Power is Broken. At His Birth, Jesus Avoided the Devil’s Attempts to Kill Him as a Baby. At the Beginning of His Ministry, He Overcame Satan’s Temptations in the Wilderness. During His Ministry, Jesus Put Satan Under His Feet by Healing the Sick, Casting Out Demons, and Forgiving People’s Sins. At the End of His Earthly Ministry, Through what Seemed like Defeat on the Cross, then Came the Resurrection and Total Victory over all the Forces of Darkness.

IV. JESUS CAME TO SAVE SINNERS. 1 Tim 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. NLT This is a true saying, and everyone should believe it: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--and I was the worst of them all. One Most Important Fact from the Bible è All People Are Sinners è All People Stand In Need Of Salvation. Some may say, “Me a Sinner??? Oh No, I’m Not so Bad.”

Paul wrote the Romans (3:9-10) we have already shown that all people, whether Jews or Gentiles, are under the power of sin. As it is written, "There is no one righteous. No, not one. Verse 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, We have All Missed the Mark and We All Need a Savior. Did you know the Bible Calls Jesus the Friend of Sinners??? Matt 11:19 NIV a friend of tax collectors and "sinners."

John 3:17 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

They Criticized Jesus for Eating with tax collectors and sinners. Mark 2:17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

If you have Sinned, Then Jesus is For You. If you have Not Sinned, you are Not Human.

The Bible Teaches that there is a Place Called Hell … That God’s Wrath will be Poured Out on the Ungodly.

But the Greatest Joy of any Preacher is Telling You that Christ was Born to Die for Our Sins. It is Not God’s Will that Any be Lost and Go to Hell for all Eternity. God wants you to Come to Jesus, Receive Him as your Savior and Be Forgiven of your Sins. He Wants to Give you Eternal Life.

Luke 19:10 10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

My Friend, THAT is what Christmas is All About. Jesus Saving the Lost, and Giving them Eternal Life. That is Why He was Born, Why He Came.

Focus on Christ this Christmas, Not on Shopping and Spending Money, Not on Parties and Food, and Trees and Decorations.

Receive Him into your life as your Lord.

John 1:12-13

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Romans 10:9-10 NLT For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.

Becoming a Christian is a simple as the ABC’s.

ASK Jesus into your heart.

BELIEVE that He died for your sins on the cross and was raised from the dead to make you right with God.

Confess Christ as your Lord and Savior.
