Series: Let’s Be Jesus Friends
Sermon 2: Having a Witnessing Lifestyle
Acts 1:1-26
The Great Commission applies to our lifestyle. We are a people are always on the go. The average family moves once every five years. We are also on the god on a day-to-day basis. We who know Jesus are citizens of two worlds. Heaven and earth so we are living in a hectic, busy on-the-go world. The good thing about this is that Jesus understands. This is why when He commissioned us in this text, he says as you are going, make disciples. These are our marching order. Wherever we are, wherever we go we are to seek to bring others into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ! The early church took this command seriously. They caught the passion of Jesus and his compassion for the lost world. Their exploits are recorded in Acts.
I think I need to tell you that Jesus is alive! Jesu has risen and is continuing to work in this world through his followers. They are first convinced that he is alive. He has proven it to them by many infallible proofs. Fear sometimes is a big hindrance in telling someone else about Jesus. But fear is a common to all Christians who try to witness. The disciples were not different. They are shown in the Gospels after Jesus crucifixion behind closed doors. But in Acts, these same men are bold and courageous! The difference being Jesus is alive.
Jesus is the very heart of witnessing. Before he went back to heaven, Jesus repeated his command to be personal soul-winners in verse 8. The key in winning others is to tell what Jesus means to you. That’s one of the most effective ways to witness. Jesus said wherever we go, beginning where we are -at home with your family, with people in general - on the job, where you shop, at school, and others about Jesus. When Jesus went back to Zion, the disciple got busy. Witnessing is to be our main business until Jesus comes again.
