There are very few of us who have never, at one time or another, allowed ourselves to be overcome by worry. Stress comes at us from many directions and it is easy to give in and get caught in a web of worry. Jesus addresses this here in this sixth chapter of Matthew.
I. THE COMMAND--V.25.
“Take no thought”--3 times Jesus repeats this in the text--VV. 25, 31, 34.
Amplified-- “stop being perpetually uneasy (anxious and worried)”
II. THE CURSE
A. Worry is Idolatry--V.24—It puts more trust in self or circumstances than in Christ.
B. Worry is Futility--V. 27—It cannot bring about one thing positive or productive.
C. Worry is Devaluation--VV. 26-30—It makes us think that we are of less value than birds, grass, or flowers.
III. THE CURE
A. Have your faith in God’s Care--V.32
I PETER 5:7—Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you.
B. Have your focus on God’s Kingdom-V 33.
C. Have your future in God’s Control--V. 34.
If God is taking care of the future, what is there to worry over?
