Roles of the King in Our Lives - Matt 6:9,10
Jesus taught us to pray,
"Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
In preaching and praying Jesus and the scriptures give us a picture of the roles of the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Here are a few guidelines for allowing the King of our hearts to rule through all aspects of His kingdom, His power and glory in our lives.
1. REIGNING - The King reigns supreme above all dominions, powers and authorities not only in the spiritual world, but in all other dimensions of life. Let us exalt Him, reverence Him and worship Him as the one who is greater than all problems, people and predicaments. (Col. 1:16)
2. RULING - The King rules in the hearts of all who are willing to relinquish the control of their lives to His wisdom, power and love. When our hearts are filled with the Holy Spirit we will manifest greater measures of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control no matter what the situation. (Gal. 5:22,23)
3. RENEWING - The King makes new again things that are worn out and tired. He promises us that if anyone is in Christ they are a new creation, the old things are gone and all things are made new. (2 Cor. 5:17) The King is in the business of regenerating what is dead with new life.
4. RESUPPLYING - The King resupplies us with whatever we need for life and godliness through a true knowledge of Him who calls us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His perfect and magnificent promises in order that by them we might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped corruption that is in the world by lust. (2 Pet. 1:3,4)
5. RE-ORDERING - The King gives us proper priorities to follow. He tells us "Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you as well." (Matt 6:33) Quit worrying about the non-essentials and concentrate on what is of primary importance and you will find God supplying all that you need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:19)
6. RE-CONFIGURING - The King helps us re-arrange our thoughts, attitudes and actions in a way that pleases the Lord in all respects and then bears fruit in every good work as we increase in the knowledge of God. He strengthens us with all power according to His glorious might for the obtaining of all steadfastness and patience with joy. (Col. 1:9-11)
7. REPLACING - The King helps us replace what is negative with what is positive. Paul wrote, "Put away anger, jealousy, wrath, slander and clamor and put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bearing with one another, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ has forgiven you." (Eph. 4:28-32)
8. RENOUNCING - The King helps us renounce evil and all Satanic, worldly and fleshly attempts to subvert the rule of God in our lives. Paul wrote, "Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might." (Eph. 6:10) James wrote, "Submit yourself to God, resist the devil and He will flee from you." (James 4:17)
9. REMINDING - The King says, "Remember Jesus Christ" whenever we get weary in well doing. "Fixing your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith who for the joy that is set before Him, endured the cross, not minding the shame. For consider Him who endured such suffering of sinners against Himself, lest you be weary and faint in your minds. For you have not resisted to the point of shedding of blood in your fight against sin." (Heb. 12:2-4)
10. REDEEMING - The King wants us to hearld the good news of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ who comes to redeem the lost and save them from sin, death, hell and eternal judgment. The greatest message the world has ever heard is worth everything we have. Nothing is more important than giving our lives as Jesus did for us so that the world may know that our Redeemer lives and He will stand in the latter day on the earth. Let us do all we can to help people keep from drowning, dying and destroying themselves because of their neglect or passive rejection of the gospel of Christ.
11. RELEASING - The King sets the captive free and heals the broken hearted and lifts off the burden of the heavy burdened. (Isa 61:1,2) There is great joy to know that we have played a part in releasing people from their captivity to sin, self and societal pressures. The King alone has the capacity to set you free. Jesus said, "If you continue in my word than truly you are my disciples and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free." (John 8:31,32)
12. RELIEVES - The King delivers us from pain, distress, anxiety and danger of all types. The King takes the pressure away of having to succeed on our own. The King has a gentle way of saying, "Cast all your anxiety on Me because I care for you. Plus I am the only one qualified to fight against the roaring lion, the devil, who seeks to steal, slaughter, kill and destroy you." (I Pet. 5:7,8)
13. REINFORCES - The King strengthen the weak, the weary and the wayfarer. He supply all the support you need in times of trouble. He says, "Call upon Me in the day of trouble and I will answer you and deliver you and you will honor Me." (Psa 50:15) Whenever you need additional resources to refortify your position, call upon the one with unlimited reinforcement capabilities.
14. RELEGATES - The King has a way of consigning or dismissing to an inferior position those who fail to trust and obey Him. We need to fear and God and keep His commandments as Solomon concluded. "Here is the conclusion of the matter, "Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil." (Eccl. 12:13,14) Do not think that there are not consequences to failing to trust and obey the Lord.
15. REFRESHES - The King has a way of reviving our hearts, soul, strenth and mind with a fresh vigor. He has the best way of relaxing our frayed nerves and giving us a new glimpse of the faith, hope and love that is ours in the resident Holy Spirit. Ask the Lord to re-energize you with a greater sense of the great things He can do in and through you. Allow the King to empower, enable and enlighten you with His greater purposes, power and provisions for your life!
16. RECONCILING - The King gives us the ministry of reconciliation. Paul wrote, "All this is from God, who reconciled himself in Chirst and gave us the ministry of reconciliation. That God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the ministry of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf; Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." (2 Cor. 5:19-21)We have a great responsibility to be the purveyors of the ministry and message of reconciliation to the whole of the 24,000 people groups on the earth.
17. RE-DIRECTS - The King gives clear direction about His plans, purposes and pathways that He wants us to travel. He is the best one to control, govern and manage all of our resources. He brings to bear all of His wisdom, power and love in orchestrating the best pathways. Allow the Lord to redirect your heart, soul, strength and mind through the word, prayer and the Holy Spirit’s guidance. He alone has the qualification to best direct you in paths that will make you successful. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. Do not be wise in our own eyes, fear God and turn away from evil." (Prov. 3:5-7)
18. RESTRICTING - The King has the option to restrict His subjects from advancing to far and too fast. David wrote, "For promotion comes neither from the east, the west or the south, but God is one who puts up one and puts down another." Paul said, "But I was hindered from going on to Spain." The Lord knows the best ways and times and manner to restrict us even when we may think we know better.
19. REWARDING - The King is the one who best judges and rewards His servants. Paul wrote, "Do your work wholehearted to the Lord and not to men knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of your inheritance. It is the Lord Jesus Christ you serve and not men." (Col. 3:23,24) Do not feel that you have to be a people pleaser. Paul wrote, "I care very little what you think for the Lord is the judge. Wait until the Lord comes."
20. REALIZING - The King is the one who helps us realize what is essential and what is non-essential. Jesus said, "But, seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you as well. Do not worry about tomorrow for it will take care of itself. Each day has enough troubles of its own." (Matt 6:33,34)Only the Holy Spirit, who is the king of committed believers, enlightens our minds helping us to know God’s will, ways and wonders. Ask the Lord to be your teacher, guide and clarifying of His priority purposes for each moment of the day. Paul prayed, "I pray that the eyes of your heart would be enlightened so you can know what is the hope of your calling, what is the greatness of your calling and what is the exceeding abundance of the riches you have in Christ Jesus." (Eph. 1:17,18)
Song: 1. O worship the King, all glorious above,
O gratefully sing God’s power and God’s love;
our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days,
pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise.
2. O tell of God’s might, O sing of God’s grace,
whose robe is the light, whose canopy space,
whose chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,
and dark is God’s path on the wings of the storm.
3. The earth with its store of wonders untold,
Almighty, thy power hath founded of old;
hath stablished it fast by a changeless decree,
and round it hath cast, like a mantle, the sea.
4. Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;
it streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,
and sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.
5. Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,
in thee do we trust, nor find thee to fail;
thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end,
our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend.
