FORGETFULNESS
2 Chronicles 25-28
Introduction:
1. My forgetfulness.
2. Watching the last few minutes of a game to see who wins.
The Church is relaxing because we know we win.
We need revival. Revival is for the saved.
3. How many does it take to have revival? Are you the one?
Tharon’s prayer with me at 7 years old. “Dear God, thank you for
loving the world so much that You sent Your only forgotten Son
to die for us on the cross”.
4. Do we really want to see revival break out? Do we really want to see the lost saved?
5. Let’s look at some Biblical examples of Kings of Judah and churches this morning that had forgotten some things and the solution that God has for us to start fresh.
Forgotten Love
The Problem
2 Chronicles 25:1-2 (King Amaziah)
Revelation 2:4 (Church in Ephesus)
1. This was an active church. It had not gone off into heresy.
2. The spirit of love had evaporated out of people’s hearts. The church services became an empty show.
3. The people of this church had lost their first love.
4. They were going through the motions out of obligation, not out of love for God.
5. Why are you here? Why do you want to see revival?
The Solution
Revelation 2:5
1. Remember.
2. What makes a Christian work for Christ? Love.
3. Remember when you enjoyed serving Christ?
4. Repent. Do you see a gap in how you live now versus how you used to live for Christ?
5. To get back to the first love, you must repent and put your focus back on Jesus Christ.
If We Refuse?
Revelation 2:5
1. He will come quickly and remove their candlestick.
2. We are to be a lighthouse, but if we refuse to do that, God will get us out of the way.
3. Are you the problem? Do we need to be removed?
Forgotten Teachings
The Problem
2 Chronicles 26:3-5; 16-18 (King Uzziah)
Revelation 2:14-15 (Church in Pergamum)
1. Compromise.
2. Balamism is equivalent to the worldliness that goes on today.
3. Nicolaitanes means “to rule” and “the people”.
4. Evidently there were some that had their own agenda.
5. The only agenda we better have is the one given to us by God.
The Solution
Revelation 2:16
1. Repent.
2. Who leads you, God or man?
3. If it is not God, you better repent!
4. Decide who you are going to follow.
5. God or the world. You choose.
If We Refuse?
Revelation 2:16
1. Jesus is coming to judge.
2. Christ is warning those who are not being faithful to either “clean it up” or He will do it for them!
3. Would you be among the faithful or unfaithful?
Forgotten Devotion
The Problem
2 Chronicles 27:1-2 (King Jotham)
Revelation 2:20 (Church in Thyatira)
1. This church was a going, growing church, always on the job for the Lord.
2. But all of a sudden there is a black spot. The black spot was Jezebel.
3. This church tolerated a cult of idolatry and immorality.
4. What happened to Christians having a “backbone” and not allowing “garbage” like this to find its way into our churches?
5. We must take a stand for our faith.
The Solution
Revelation 2:25
1. Don’t give up.
2. Don’t get the attitude of “If I can’t beat them, I’ll join them”.
3. When you stand for your faith, you may take some hard shots, but don’t quit.
4. We were never promised an easy road.
5. Repent. If you have allowed yourself to be led astray, repent.
If We Refuse?
1. Jesus said He had given them ample time to repent and they had refused to do it. Therefore, Jesus was left with no other choice, but to pronounce judgment upon Jezebel and her followers.
2. Do you have some unconfessed sin in your life? God is giving you time to repent of it and get rid of it. If you refuse, what else can God do but come upon you with the sword of judgment.
3. Many today are being led astray and will suffer for all eternity. Who are you following?
Forgotten Christian Living
The Problem
2 Chronicles 26:3-5; 16-18 (King Uzziah)
Revelation 3:1 (Church in Sardis)
1. The church had everyone “fooled”.
2. There reputation was of a live church, but Jesus said they were dead.
3. This church was functioning from accomplishments of the past.
4. They were like artificial flowers, they looked good from a distance but when you get up close, you realize that they are “fake”.
5. The results: None saved. No repentance. No harvest reaped for the Lord. They were still going through the motions, but that was all.
The Solution
Revelation 3:2-3
1. Repent.
2. Go in a new direction.
3. Don’t just tell God you are sorry.
4. Really mean it and show it by starting fresh for Him.
5. That is what true repentance is!
If We Refuse?
Revelation 3:3
1. Jesus is telling them “repent or else”.
2. If we refuse, he will come upon us like a thief.
3. Are you ready for Christ’s return?
Forgotten Concern
The Problem
2 Chronicles 28:1 (King Ahaz & the Tribe of Judah)
Revelation 3:15-19 (Church in Laodicea)
1. This church was “lukewarm”.
2. You know what that means? They didn’t care what happened.
3. They knew what sin was, but they tolerated it.
4. They were unconcerned, inconsistent, compromising, complacent, worthless Christians.
5. They were wealthy! They didn’t need anything, they had it easy. Sound familiar?
The Solution
Revelation 3:18
1. Be watchful. Wake up!
2. Be on your guard, lest sin and the world creep in and rob you of your spiritual power.
3. Strengthen the things, which remain. The works that are still going keep them going; but put some life back into them.
4. How? Do them for Christ! Remember all the things that they had received and hold them tightly. Remember how it was when Christ was first place in your life? Remember how God has blessed your life?
5. Repent!
If We Refuse?
Revelation 3:16
1. Jesus said this makes Him sick and He will reject your games.
2. We better stop playing church and start coming to serve the Lord before we are spit out.
3. Do we cause Jesus to rejoice or do we turn His stomach?
Conclusion:
Revelation 3:20-22
1. Jesus is standing outside the door and pleading with us to let him in our hearts, and in our churches. Jesus won’t knock the door down. He just gently knocks and asks to come in.
2. This is invitation is in two parts: This first is for any that are here without Jesus Christ as their Savior. You are dead in your sins and if you were to die today you would go to a terrible place called Hell. As the verse says, “Jesus is standing outside the door and knocking”. Are you going to open the door to your heart and surrender your life to Jesus Christ tonight?
3. The second part of this invitation is for Christians. Jesus Christ has been forgotten in too many churches and wants to come in our churches and lead us. Jesus loves the church so much that He died for it. If you want revival in your church and community, who is going to start it?
