THE GOD OF THE AGED
ISAIAH 46:4
ISAIAH 46:4 = “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”
I. WE HAVE A GOD WHO SUSTAINS AND RESCUES US
A. Sustain means to give support or relief. This word gives us the picture of one person helping to hold
up another. To sustain someone, means you provide nourishment for him or her and allow him or her to
lean on you.
B. We have a God who sustains us in this life. At any time, we can lean on Him, in fact He asks us to.
Anytime life seems to be more than we can bear, we can lean on God and He will nourish our soul.
Anytime we feel weak and unable to stand on our won, God is there to hold us up and helps us to gain
our strength.
C. We have a God who rescues us when we get into trouble. Scripture is full of people who called on
God in times when they had no where else to go. Scripture is full of those people rescued by God.
D. I would like to encourage you today to lean on the Almighty God as your strength and faith during
this time. He has the strength to help you grieve. If you feel like you need to be rescued, ask God for
His help.
II. WE HAVE A GOD WHO IS WITH US ALL OUR DAYS
A. This verse from Isaiah gives us a picture of a God who walks with us from the moment we are born
into our years when our hair becomes gray and our legs become weak. He never leaves us or forsakes
us. He is with us especially at the point of death.
B. For those of us who believe in Jesus Christ, death is not something to be feared even though some of
it is unknown. We do not face death alone. We face death with the Creator of the Universe at our side.
We face death knowing that our soul will be in the hands of the Almighty.
