Phillipians 4:13
Topic: I know I can
There is a rap song that has been played on the radio a lot for the last couple of months. The rap song is called, “I can”. “I can” is a rap song that was written by Nas. In this song, Nas raps:
“I know I can
Be what I want to be
If I work hard at it
I’ll be where I want to be!!!"
Now that rap song is one of the most positive rap songs that I have ever heard yet because it does not have any cuss words(profanity), it is not a rap song that degrades women, it not a rap song that glorifies violence, drugs, or crime. But it is a rap song that is trying to encourage, and build up our young people self esteem. But I would also say this, that this song not only inspires young people, but it also inspires older folks as well because it does not matter how old you are, or how young you are; you can accomplish whatever you set your mind to do.
And also what makes this rap song, “I can” such a positive song is because it reminds me of a scripture in the bible. The scripture that the song reminds of is Phillipians 4:13 where it says, “I can do all things through Christ, which strengthens me.”
Now that scripture let’s us know that no matter what your goals are, no matter what your dreams are, you can be whatever you want to be if work hard at it, and put your trust in Jesus Christ. If you put God first in everything you do, no matter what you want to do in life, through Christ you can do it. Like Nas says in his song:
“Be,B-boy and girls, listen up”
“You can be anything in the world, in God we trust.”
“An Architect, doctor, may be an actress”
“But nothing comes easy, it takes much practice”
Not only do we need to trust in Jesus and pray everyday to become whatever we want to be, but we need to “practice”. That means we need to learn, study, complete our homework and assignments, do well, and pay attention at school. You see you wont be able to be an architect, doctor or an actress if you cut up and don’t pay attention in school. When you go to school you need to:
1.Listen carefully
2.Follow directions
3.Raise your hand when you need help
4.Complete all of your assignments, do all of your homework, and study for your tests.
5.Respect your parents, teachers, and principal
6.Stay away from drugs
7.Stay out of gangs
Yes, you can be whatever you want to be. You can go wherever you want to go in life whether it be college, military, medical school, seminary, or wherever you want to go if just trust in Jesus and work hard at it and do your very best. No matter what you want to do in life young people, you ought to say those words everyday by saying:
“I KNOW I CAN
“BE WHAT I WANT TO BE”
“IF I WORK HARD AT IT
“I BE WHERE I WANT TO BE!!!!”
