How many today can say that I have known the Lord to be on my side before? This morning I would like to reaffirm and reassure some young people that the Lord is on your side. I want you to leave here today saying the Lord is on my side, the Lord is on my side, the Lord is on my side. You need to know this morning that God has not left you and he hasn’t given up on you but he wants to be involved in every area of your life. The Lord is on my side.
Deuteronomy 20:1-4
1 When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
2 And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people,
3 And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;
4 For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
In the book of Deuteronomy chapter twenty it tells us about the principles governing warfare for the people of God. It provided instructions about their conduct during a battle. You see God not only said how they were to dress and look and separate themselves from the world but he also said this is how you are to act and this is how you are to think when you are going to war. I don’t want my people being scared or showing fear when in battle but this is how you conduct yourself in battle.
The Israelites are conquering the promise land at this time and Almighty God promises to be with them with his presence and with victory if they will obey his instructions.
He said when you go to battle and you see that the enemy has more horses, more chariots and more people, don’t be afraid because I am with you.
God says don’t let your heart faint, don’t fear, don’t tremble and don’t be terrified because of your enemy. But remember the Lord your God is he that goes with you, to fight for you and to save you.
God wants someone to know today that he will be with you.
You don’t have to:
¸ Fear
¸ Tremble
¸ Be terrified
¸ Throw the towel in
Because Almighty God is on your side. He is going to fight for you and he is going to cause you to be victorious.
¸ It doesn’t matter what the odds are against you. The Lord is on my side.
¸ It doesn’t matter if the circumstances are insurmountable. The Lord is on my side.
¸ It doesn’t matter if it looks hopeless. The Lord is on my side.
¸ It doesn’t matter if the situation is bigger than you are. The Lord is on my side.
Almighty God is on your side!
The Lord is on my side!
Romans 8:31 says what shall we say to these things? If God be for us who can be against us?
Now when it says if God be for us it is not talking about position, because God is before us and he is behind us and on the left side and on the right side.
¸ He is all around us.
¸ He never leaves us or forsakes us.
¸ He sticks closer to us than a brother.
¸ He is the author and finisher of our faith.
It means that the Lord is on your side.
What shall we say to the things in the beginning part of Romans 8?
It says:
¸ There is no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus.
¸ Christ has made me free from the law of sin and death.
¸ To be spiritually minded is life and peace.
¸ If we walk in the spirit the spirit of God dwells in us.
¸ That spirit one day will quicken our mortal bodies and we will rise to meet him in the air.
¸ He has adopted us into his family.
¸ He is making intercession for us according to the will of God.
¸ All things work together for good to them that love him.
¸ He called us.
¸ He justified us.
¸ He glorified us.
What shall we say then to THESE things? If God be for us who can be against us?
The Lord is on my side!!!!
¸ There is no situation in life that God doesn’t want to help you out of.
¸ Your life is not so broken and messed up that God can’t put it back together again.
¸ There is not a person that is too far off from God that he can’t reach down and turn the tables in your life today.
ÿ Weeping may endure for a night…but the Lord is on my side.
ÿ I’ve just fallen down…but the Lord is on my side.
ÿ I’ve got trouble right now…but the Lord is on my side.
ÿ I’ve got sickness right now…but the Lord is on my side.
ÿ It is darker than it’s ever been…but the Lord is on my side.
ÿ The enemy is coming in like a flood…but the Lord is on my side.
ÿ The enemy’s weapons are coming against me…but the Lord is on my side.
If God is for me there is no one or nothing that can be against me.
The Lord is on my side!!!
In the world of professional wrestling they have all kinds of crazy matches. They have:
¸ Steel cage matches
¸ Grudge matches
¸ Matches when the last one standing wins the match and there are about 20 wrestlers in the ring at once.
But one of the more traditional kinds of matches, besides the one on one match, is the tag team wrestling match.
This is a match where you and a partner are teamed up against two other wrestlers but only one wrestler can be in the ring fighting at a time.
The way the other wrestler gets into the ring legally is for the one that is in the ring to tag his partner. Then that wrestler can get into the ring and fight against the opponent that is in the ring.
Often times when the wrestler waiting to get in the match sees his partner is getting beat he is reaching out as far as he can so his partner can tag him and he can get in and fight. But perhaps his partner is too far away and can’t reach out to make the tag. What is he going to do? There is nothing he can do legally to get into the ring. He just has to wait for the tag.
But here is where I want to preach just for a moment. For the scripture says that the Lord is on MY SIDE!!! He is on my side today. He is on your side today. You’re not fighting alone. You’re not in the ring by yourself. This trial that you’re facing, you’re not facing it alone. But Almighty God is on your side.
The Lord is on my side!
As long as you have a relationship with God he is on your side. That means you have repented of your sins and have been baptized in Jesus name and have been filled with the Holy Spirit of God, the Lord is on your side.
Numbers 11:23
23 And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD’S hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.
Isaiah 50:2
2 Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for thirst.
Isaiah 59:1
1 Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
When you reach out to him there is no shortage:
¸ to his mercy
¸ to his grace
¸ to his power
¸ to his salvation
¸ to his ability
¸ to his love
¸ to his healing
But God can reach you wherever you are at. You don’t have to clean yourself up first but just reach out to him in faith and he can touch you today.
Psalm 118:6
6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?
Hebrews 13:5-6
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
Psalms says “The Lord is on my side.” But Hebrews in quoting this Old Testament verse says it another way. It says, “The Lord is my helper.” I wonder what is the significance of that word helper in the book of Hebrews.
The word helper in the Greek is a compound word. It comes from the Greek words (Boe) which means a cry for help and (Theo) which means to run. Put them together and it means one who comes running when we cry for help. This Greek compound word paints a word picture of the Lord as one who is poised and ready to rush to the relief of his oppressed children when they shout for His assistance.
THE LORD IS ON MY SIDE!
Let me illustrate this for you today. David who is a young boy is going to face a grown man who is also a giant named Goliath.
Let’s look at Goliath:
¸ He is six cubits and a span which is about 9 feet and 9 inches tall
¸ He had on a bronze helmet
¸ His coat of armor was 125 pounds of bronze
¸ He had a spear as straight as a weavers beam. The head of the spear weighed 16 pounds
¸ He also had a great sword in his hand.
He was an impressive man of war.
But on the other side there was David – just a fair skinned red headed boy.
Goliath made his boast:
¸ I’ll tear you limb from limb – uh-huh
¸ I’ll feed you to the birds of the air – uh-huh
¸ I’ll feed you to the beast of the field – uh-huh
Apparently you don’t understand boy I’m 10 feet tall and a man of war and your just a little boy. No, no Goliath you don’t understand because the Lord is on MY SIDE. Hey Jesus! I need your help for just a moment!(Tag Someone)
And then the Lord gave David the supernatural strength to defeat Goliath.
It doesn’t matter if your facing a giant in your life that’s ten feet tall all you have got to do is call on Jesus.
The Lord is on my side!

Gideon was called one day by the Lord to defeat he Midianites. But Lord you don’t understand.

¸ I’m the least in my family
¸ I’m a nobody
You can’t even number the Midianites there are so many of them.

The Lord wanted them to know that it was Almighty God that was bringing them the victory.
¸ It doesn’t matter what the odds are against you if the Lord is on your side.
¸ It doesn’t matter if it’s 1000 against 1 if the Lord is on your side.
¸ It doesn’t matter if it seems like everything is against you if the Lord is on your side.
¸ It doesn’t matter if everybody is against you if the Lord is on your side.
Psalm 91 – 1000 shall fall at thy side 10,000 at thy right hand. But it shall not come nigh thee.

Somebody needs to understand today that you’re not all alone because the Lord is on your side.
Somebody needs to understand that the Lord cares for you today and is concerned about every need that you face. The Lord is on your side.
