ALONE WITH JESUS
You know , when someone is real good at something you’re really interested in you really look forward to and jump at the opportunity to sit down and talk with them about whatever it is you have in common.
Your favorite group or band comes to town to perform. you love the kinds of music or whatever it is they do. You love to meet them, get to know them, talk about what they do.
What if Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, Roland Martin came to town and was lounging around at the coffee shop with nothing to do and you just happen to bump into him. Would you ask a few questions? Try to pick his brain, get some really hot tips?
If Martha Stewart were to breeze into town and you had a chance to sit alone with her, would you sit down with her?
If Adrean Rodgers or Charles Stanley were to come to your house would you ask them their point of view on some things?
You know I know the feeling. I have people that I love to get alone. Heroes of mine that I would love to get alone with and get deep into whatever it is we have in common. Some that I like, such as some of the ones that I just named, are far away and would be very difficult if not impossible to get to see much less get alone with.
Some heroes and people I admire, mentors of mine are close and I do get to sit down with them and chew the fat with them here and there.
Then there is one friend that I have, a hero of sorts, a mentor. He is very busy. He is a king. He’s all over the world but He always cherishes the opportunity to get alone with me.
This one person is the one I love to be alone with more than anybody else in this entire world. I do not get alone with Him near as much as I should. But He remains faithful anyway.
This person, this hero, this mentor, this king, this friend of mine His name is Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
Yes this King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, this Prince of Peace, the creator of all the world is my friend and I love to be alone with Him.
How do I know that He is my friend? Well, He wrote me this little love letter you see, and in this little love letter He put in some little reminders like this. In the book of John 15:12-14 He told me, “This is My commandment. That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
Mark 4:34. Today, for the next few minutes let’s talk about, “ALONE WITH JESUS”.
This is what I call a three “WHAT” message,
1. What do you have to do to get alone with Jesus?
2. What happens when you get alone with Jesus?
3. What are the results of being alone with Jesus?
First of all let’s look at “What We Have To Do To Get Alone With Jesus”. I Mean after all He is the King of Kings. Can just anybody get alone with a person like that? My answer to you my friend would be, No. The first thing you’ve got to do is you’ve got to be saved.
Can a lost person get alone with Jesus? There are only three circumstances that a lost person would ever be alone with Jesus.
1. When Jesus comes along through the convicting power of His Holy Spirit and taps that person on the shoulder, smacks him in the face, or whatever method He uses to get that person’s attention, and says, “ Buddy you’re lost. You’re lost in your sins and you’re gonna spend eternity in Hell unless you confess me as your savior.
2. The second circumstance that a lost person would be alone with Jesus is when that person comes to terms with the fact that he’s lost in his sins and will spend eternity in a devil’s hell and he humbles himself in the holy presence of Jesus Christ and confesses that he is a lost sinner in need of a savior. Then invites Him into his heart and life as savior.
Then he is no longer a lost person in the presence of Jesus but a saved, precious saint of the Kingdom of God alone with Jesus.
3. The third circumstance that a lost person would be alone with Jesus would be at the day of Judgment when there is nobody else there but you and Jesus. None of you friends are gonna be there standing along side you to help see you through this thing. Your mother, daddy, brother, or sister won’t be there to hold your hand for comfort. Then He’ll note that your sins are not covered by His precious, shed blood and He’ll announce to you, “Depart from Me ye worker of iniquity, for I never knew you.”
Oh my friend, to me that would be the most terrible thing throughout eternity to here. The saddest statement in all of history to hear Jesus Christ tell me, “Depart from Me.”
My friend you’ve got to be a saved, born again, washed in His precious blood, child of God to get alone with Jesus. Look at our text verses. There’s our first clue right there at the end. It says, “And when they were alone, He expounded all things to His disciples.” He did not expound all things to the multitudes, but to His disciples.
So you are saved now and you can get alone with Jesus. Now, “What happens when you get alone with Jesus?” Look again right there at the end. It says, “ And when they were alone, He expounded all things.”
Do you know what that means? What happens when you get alone with Jesus is, “Anything you need to happen happens.”
There are three things we have when we’re with Jesus. We have;
1. The presence of Jesus
We’re in the Holy, powerful, life-giving presence of Jesus Christ, God Himself, the I Am that I Am, creator, ruler, and sustainer of all things. We have the presence of Jesus.
2. The power of Jesus.
Power of the creator of the universe. John 1:3-5, 9-13. The power of God here on earth. Power to heal the sick, the broken hearted, power of comfort, power that trampled death, hell, and the grave, power to forgive sin to the uttermost, power to calm any storm of life that you or I might face because all He has to do is utter those three little words, “peace be still”.
We have the power of Jesus.
3. The peace of Jesus.
You remember when Jesus told the disciples to get into the boat and, “Let us go over to the other side”. Well, it was a well known fact that they were headed straight into the devil’s campground. The devil stirred up a great storm. The disciples got scared, they woke Jesus, He arose and rebuked the winds with those three little words, “peace be still.” The peace of Jesus. Isiah 26:3. The peace of Jesus, the peace that surpasses all understanding.
When you get alone with Jesus anything you need to happen will happens. I Peter 5:6,7. Because that’s the place where He expounds all things to us, His disciples.
So we’ve seen what we have to do to get alone with Jesus. We’ve seen what happens when we get alone with Jesus. Now let’s see :
3. What are the results of being alone with Jesus? Isiah 41:10. The results are three S’s. Stability, security, and salvation.
1. I will strengthen thee.
This same power that speaks “peace be still” to the winds and the waves strengthens us to go on and face whatever comes our way whether it be bullets or blessings.
The Bible plainly teaches that our lives will be a constant mixture of trials, tribulations, blessings, and rewards. When we get alone with Jesus there is stability, the strength of God strengthens us to counterbalance life itself. Stability.
2. The second result is security.
“I will help thee.” There is not one single thing in this world that is for certain, that you can depend on except God and His word. Young people you can’t always count on another friend, mother, daddy, brother, sister to be there for you. Mother, daddy you can’t always depend on that co-worker, neighbor, son, or daughter to supply the right answers. But, right here in the Word of God He has promised us, “I will help thee”. Right there is security. Let the storm winds blow. Let the waves come. Because you know what? Even though the waves are over our head they’re still under His feet.
Let the troubles and trials come our way. Because He has promised us that He will never leave us nor forsake us. And you know what? He’s still on the throne. He’s still God. He hasn’t gone anywhere and He will not go anywhere. “Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me: Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me”. He is still God. Rock of ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee.
We get stability with Jesus. We get security with Jesus. And finally, but most importantly;
3. We have salvation with Jesus.
He offers salvation to you and me because He has the power to forgive us of our sins and cover our sins. Because He shed His innocent, Holy, precious blood for our sins. “Though your sins be as scarlet they shall be as wool. Though they be red like crimson they shall be white as snow.”
He is the Savior, the rescuer, the Christ. In Him is the power to forgive individuals of their sins. There is no other way to spend eternity with Him in the Holy presence of God the Father, God almighty.
As a matter of fact He is the only way you can do that. He is not “a” way. He is not “the best” way. He is “the only” way. God the Father said, “This is My son in whom I am well pleased.” Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father except by Me.” Any other way only leads to death and destruction. There is salvation in Jesus Christ.
So there you have it, getting alone with Jesus, a three “what” message: What do you have to do to get alone with Jesus? You have to be saved. You’ve got to be one of His disciples, one of His followers.
What happens when you get alone with Jesus? Anything you need to happen will Happen. You have the presence, the power, the peace of Jesus.
What are the results of being alone with Jesus? You get strength, security, and salvation through Jesus.
“And when they were alone with Jesus He expounded all things to “His disciples”.
What about you? Wouldn’t you like to be able to get alone with Jesus? Are you one of His disciples?
Wouldn’t you love to be in the presence, the power, and the peace of Jesus? Are you on of His disciples?
Don’t you want the stability, the security, the salvation in Jesus? Are you one of His disciples?
