Key Scripture: Phil 2:5-8 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross!
What did “the cross” represent to Christ? – Obedience!
1. (John 5:36 NIV) "I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me.
2. (John 6:44 NIV) "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.
3. (John 6:57 NIV) Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.
4. (John 8:16 NIV) But if I do judge, my decisions are right, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me.
5. (John 8:18 NIV) I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me."
6. (John 12:49 NIV) For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it.
7. (John 14:24 NIV) He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
8. (John 17:25 NIV) "Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me.
9. (John 20:21 NIV) Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you."
THREE NAILS ---
1. GUILT & CURSE: Deu 21:22-23a If a man guilty of a capital offense is put to death and his body is hung on a tree, you must not leave his body on the tree overnight. Be sure to bury him that same day, because anyone who is hung on a tree is under God’s curse.
2. SHAME: (Heb 12:2 NIV) Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3. OPPOSITION & PERSECUTION: (Phil 3:18 NIV) For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.
Gal 6:12 NIV) Those who want to make a good impression outwardly are trying to compel you to be circumcised. The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ.
