What’s That In Your Hand Christian?
Exodus Chapter 4:1-5
And Moses answered and said, But behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath
Not appeared unto thee.2 And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, a rod.3 And he said cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.4 And the LORD said unto Moses, put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand.5 That they believe that the Lord GOD of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
Moses seems to be really concerned whether the people of God, will believe that God has sent him or not. I would like to submit to you today that although this is a concern of Moses, it’s not the major concern that Moses is dealing with. You see Moses like all believers has seen some tuff times. Moses tried to accomplish his call in his own power, and in his own way. When we look at Exodus chapter 2:11-15 we see that he failed miserably.
Moses is having a hard time believing that God can still use him, and that the people will accept him. I don’t know of any Preacher, or Teacher that is in Ministry that did not go through a ruff start. That their life was not turned up side down. Some would say why? I believe God allows us to go through this time, because we have to learn to completely depend upon God.
Moses is at a point where he feels inadequate to accomplish the task God has given him. Have you ever been here before? Are you here now? Let’s not forget that God has already shown Moses the secret to Gods ministry in chapter 3. The fact that the bush was on fire, yet the leaves were not burnt up, shows us that God can use the simplest of his creation to accomplish his will.
You would think that Moses would have learned this lesson by now. Moses has not quite realized how awesome this Jehovah God is. Why do you think that God asked Moses what was in his hand? Do you think that God may not have known what was in Moses’ hand? I tell you the truth GOD knew exactly what was in Moses’ hand! I believe God was drawing attention to the fact that the rod was just a stick. This rod was not special, it had no power in and of it self. It was just a stick! God is about to show Moses again, its not what you got, its not how much you got, its not where it came from, what matters is will you surrender it unto the LORD!!!
Will you take what you have and give it to the LORD? Someone is going to say brother Greg; I just don’t have very much to offer God. Can I tell you today God is not looking for someone who has a lot, God is looking for someone who is willing to use what GOD has provided them, to accomplish his will. The LORD is asking WHAT’S THAT IN YOUR HAND CHRISTIAN?
I remember young David when the people of GOD were being taunted by the Philistines. This young boy was just a lad, he was not a warrior, yet he answered the call. What’s that in your hand David? Well it’s just a sling and a few rocks, but in the name of the LORD that uncircumcised Philistine shall fall!! What’s that in your hand Eleazar son of Dodo? Well it’s just a sword, but I am going to yield unto the LORD!! And the LORD wrought a great victory!!
What’s that in your hand Andrew? Well it’s just a few fish and some bread JESUS. Give it to me and I will feed Five Thousand People today!!! What’s that in your hand Paul? Well it’s just some writing tools LORD, but I am going to write about you GOD.
What’s that in your hand Christian?? Well it’s just a bible, but I’m going to study, I’m going to ask GOD to guide me into all righteousness. What’s that in your hand? Well it’s a microphone, and I’m going to sing about JESUS today!! What’s that in your hand? It’s a musical instrument, and I’m going to play it unto the LORD!! What’s that in your hand? Well it’s a checkbook and I’m going to use it to further the Gospel of JESUS CHRIST!!!
I ask you my friend WHAT’S THAT IN YOUR HAND?
I don’t care what you got, how much, or how little, if you give it unto the lord he will begin to do things you never imagined. If Moses had not obeyed God and threw down the stick he would not have seen the awesome power of GOD. How many times have we failed to answer the call of GOD, and missed out on the miracles the LORD wants us to be a part of?
One last question. What’s that in your hand sinner? Well it’s my eternal future. You know GOD gives us all the ability to choose to accept him or reject him. He made it so simple that there would be no excuses in heaven as to why you rejected him. Jesus Christ died so that you and I could be saved. Through His blood our sin debt was paid. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. What’s in your hand, and will you give it unto the LORD?
