Homeland Security
Romans 13:1–4, Philippians 3:17–21
INTRODUCTION
Anxiety, and even fear, of war and possible terrorist attacks on American soil has made its way into the hearts of almost everyone in our country. After ‘9-11’ our lives changed forever. Gone was the untouchable sense of security we had as citizens of America, in its place came uncertainty. Right now the war on terror continues, OPERATION: Iraqi Freedom is in full force, as the coalition forces go about the work of liberating Iraq.
Much can be debated about war and especially the Christians involvement in war. Some will say that Christians cannot participate in war, the majority believe that Christians can if it is a “just” war. As I turned to the scriptures, in Romans 13 God through His inspired Apostle gave us instruction and assurance that yes, He is in Control.
Just recently our President created the new department of Homeland Security to help protect our country from rouge terrorists and insurgent individuals. God has given governments the power and authority to protect themselves from the forces of evil. When a man breaks the law, the government which has authority over him punishes him. Our world nations, while sovereign all abide by certain international laws to preserve order in our world. When a country and its leaders break these laws then other countries have the burden to punish them and to protect themselves. They do so with the authority of God. “he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.” Romans 13:2
Knowing that this is a “just” war does not remove fear from the heart of man. In order for man to remove this fear he must have a source of security. Christians have their own “Homeland Security”because . . . Our citizenship is in Heaven.”
Read Phil. 3:17–21
