“Who Knows For Sure?”
TEXT: Proverbs 27:1 James 4:14
Prov 27:1 (KJV)
1 Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
James 4:14 (KJV)
14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Introduction:
The scriptures that we have chosen for our text tonight teach us that man has no way of knowing for sure, what will happen from one day until the next.
We have no way of knowing for sure what tomorrow will bring.
God has not given any on us the POWER TO COMMAND ONE MOMENT OF THE FUTURE!
[A] We do know that our lives can take a turn at any given moment.
(1) We do know that life is compared to a vapor.
WHY?
(2) Vapor is smoke, always fleeting, always uncertain,
(3) It passes swiftly and no man knows for certain when his
day will come. Live Ready!!
[B] It is ok to plan for the future, but as we all know by now, many
times we make our plans and then we have to modify them to
match HIS plans.
[C] But there are some things that we can know for sure.
I. We Can Be Sure About God
Page 2 3/23/03 PM
1 Cor 1:9 (KJV)9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son
Jesus Christ our Lord.
[A] You know what this tells me? It tells me that I will always
be able to count on Him.
(1) It those times when it seems like I can’t count on anyone else,
He will be faithful to His Word.
(2) Life brings a lot of changes.
(3) Friends turn against on e another, they will forsake you.
*Some who you thought were your friends will turn and say
things to hurt you.
*Those who sing your praises today may be the ones who are
out to get you tomorrow.
*Earthly Friends have misunderstandings, something is said,
something is taken in the wrong way.
[B] But God knows all of my ways, He knows the thoughts and the
intentions of my heart.
(1) He loves just like I am.
(2) He never misunderstands what I say!
(3) He never turns against me!
(4) He never forsakes me.
(5) God is not fickle.
[C] The faithfulness of God is a favorite expression among the ancient
Jews; and by it they properly understand the integrity of God in
preserving whatever is entrusted to him.
[D] Time brings many changes to one’s life but God has declared of
Himself;
Page 3 3/23/03 PM
Mal 3:6 (KJV)
6 “For I am the LORD, I change not; …”
(1) Here God is declaring to the Jewish people that the era of grace
was coming and that He had not changed His plan but was
simply fulfilling His plan.
(2) They would not be destroyed because of Hid Grace and His
compassion.
(3) Under the law they deserved to be destroyed!
(4) Under Grace sinful men and women are drawn into a relationship
with the Savior.
[E] In the good times and in the bad, you can count on God.
Heb 13:5 (KJV)
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
II. You Can Be Sure About The Gospel
[A] God’s Word is true and faithful.
(1) Everything else may change, but God’s Word will always remain
the same.
(2) His Word will always be effective!
Luke 21:33 (KJV)
33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
(3) We have His promises written down, let us read them, let us
Cling to them, let us OBEY THEM.
(4) Let us claim them and count on them.
Isaiah 46:9-10 (KJV)
9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
Page 4 3/23/03 PM
10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:
[B] I believe that the Bible is God’s Word. I believe it is all inspired by
Him. I believe that He borrowed the hands of man and He wrote
His Book.
(1) I believe that the Bible as we know it today was Divinely
assembled by God. He has it put together just as He
Wanted it. From Gen. To Rev.
2 Tim 3:16-17 (KJV)
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
(2) God’s Word is sure. It proves its self.
(3) Two Thousand Years and no one can dis-prove it!
[C] Everything that God has said He will do, He will do!
(1) Jesus is preparing us a place.
(2) At the appointed time, He will come again and receive you.
(3) There will be a meeting in the air.
[D] Until then, you can rest in His Promises.
(1) Salvation
(2) Healing
(3) Deliverance etc….
III. You Can Be Sure About The Gospel
[A] Jesus Saves!!
(1) The Old Testament told us He would come, How He would come
Page 5 3/31/03 PM
(2) What to look for ----- It all happened just as The Word said.
[B] The gospel we preach is sure and true.
(1) It is an anchor to the soul.
John 14:6 (KJV)
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the
Father, but by me.
Acts 4:12 (KJV)
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
[C] I am not looking for some other way. I have found THE WAY!
(1) I don’t need to continue searching.
(2) I know what His Word says.
(3) I am not worried about what a religious organization says.
(4) I know what He has done for me. I remember when He lifted
my burden of sin.
[D] On the night of my conversion, The Gospel Worked and it has been
working for me ever since!!
IV. You Can Be Sure About Salvation
[A] Listen I know when He lifted my burden of sin.
(1) I remember what it felt like when He came into my life and
removed my sin.
(2) I know what a change He made in me and continues to make in
me tonight!
(3) I am sure of my salvation! You will never make me doubt it.
Page 6 3/23/03 PM
John Said; 1 John 4:14 (KJV) 14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
Eph 2:8 (KJV)
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Acts 2:21 (KJV)
_21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
[B] I am proud that we serve a God who we can fellowship with.
(1) Upon our conversion, we feel the weight of sin as it is lifted.
(2) The guilt of our past is lifted.
(3) To God, we become a people without a past.
(4) Saints of God do not have to go around wondering about
their spiritual status.
We Know!
V. We Can Be Sure About God’s Supply
[A] Perhaps No Other Scripture Fits This Topic Better Than The One
Given By The Apostle Paul To The Church At Philippi
Phil 4:19 (KJV)
19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
(1) The Apostle Paul Sounded Sure!
(2) He Did Not Stutter When He Made This Statement.
(3) It Did Not Say That God Would Supply Our Needs In Most
Cases Or Most Situations.
[B] He will supply you with everything you need to be victorus in
Page 7 3/23/03 PM
in your Christian Walk.
(1) He has given us of His Spirit
(2) Paul Said: “Put On The Whole Armor That You May Be Able
To Stand…..”
(3) Therefore we know that the whole armor is available to us.
[C] God has given us everything we need to succeed in life.
(1) He cares about your EVERY NEED.
Phil 4:19 (KJV)
19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
(2) The scriptures tell us that God knows about all our needs even
before we ask him a thing.
(3) As I have said many times the last few weeks, God is aware of
you.
[D] How much does He care about you?
(1) Think about the way most parents feel about their children.
(2) You want them to have enjoyable times in their lives.
(3) When they are small, parents dress them in cute clothing.
(4) You are always concerned about how they look, what they are
Eating, Their friends, Their toys, etc…
(5) You want to give them the best education, health, etc…
(6) It’s the same way with God!
Matt 6:25-34 (KJV)
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat,
Page 8 3/23/03 PM
and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Psalms 37:25-26 (KJV)
25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.
VI. You Can Be Sure About Soul Winning
[A] God wants us to be about the family business.
(1) What is the family business?
(2) The winning of souls……. The gathering of the harvest.
[B] Do what you can as often as you can!
(1) Love the Lord, Fellowship with Him, Study His Word,
And You Will Then Tell Others About Him!
Page 9 3/23/03 PM
[C] You wont be going out because you feel that is what is expected
of you, you will be going out to share your witness, because you
love Him so!
[D] The more you study His Word, The More You Pray and Fellowship
With Him, The More You Understand The Urgency Of The Hour.
Romans 13:11-12 (KJV)
11 “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand:….”
(1) We come to understand that the time for harvesting is almost
past.
(2) We come to understand that if we are going to win the lost, we
Had better be after it.
(3) We come to understand what winning the lost means;
James 5:20 (KJV)
20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
(4) God wants you to share the salvation message!!
VII. You Can Be Sure About The Second Coming!
[A] Look with me at the Words Of Jesus;
John 14:3 (KJV)
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
[B] Even Those Of The Old Testament Looked For This Day.
(1) The Psalmist Declared:
Page 10 3/23/03 PM
Psalms 37:27-29 (KJV)
27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.
28 For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.
[C] The world is not looking for Him!
(1) To them, He will come like a thief in the night, suddenly,
without further warning.
[D] But He As Christians We Shouldn’t Be Caught Off Guard.
1 Thess 5:1-6 (KJV)
1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
