A Sermon For You

By-Evangelist Gary Huckaby

Mothers

A mothers arms stretched forth in love,

A mothers heart contains heavens dove.

A mothers song brings such delight,

A mothers kiss last through the night.

I think of a mother so tender and dear,

I smile while thinking of little ones always near.

A mothers love is like a bright shinning light,

To those children who stumble through the darkness of night.

She listens to problems, and suggest a cure,

Because she remembers her problems, and her mothers cure.

I picture a mother who is loved by all,

I picture a mother as one that’s always on call.

I love my dear mother, and I hope you love yours,

Because we only have one, and that is for sure.

Proverbs 31:10-31

"Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good, and not evil, all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night; and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it, with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good, her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She streacheth out her hand to the poor; she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household; for all her household are clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it, and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and honor are her clothing, and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates."

Someone once said; "There is a beauty in homely things, which many never notice. For instance; The sunlight through a jar of apple jelly, A rainbow in the soapsuds, An egg yoke in a blue bowl, white ruffled curtains sifting in the moon light, the smell of freshly baked pie’s."

It has been said that we spend the first part of our lives fighting with our parents, and the second part fighting with our children. Several years ago an authority said that juvenile delinquency was growing seven times faster than child population.

One six year old was heard to say; "mama"s always give in.". How sadly true this sometimes is. Parents giving in to the children instead of giving them training, and discipline. I am going to give you eleven ways for a parent to raise a dud.

1- Let them have their own way, give them their own TV. and telephone.

2- Give them what they want when they whine for it.

3- Pick up after them. Never teach them responsibility.

4- Laugh at them when they are disrespectful.

5- Overlook little deceits, and lies.

6- Let them be selfish and ill mannered.

7- Don’t check on their allowance spending, Let them throw their moneyaway. Let them buy everything that they want, to matter how bad.

8- Let them chatter on and interrupt the conversation of adults.

9- Let them learn immodesty, anger, and profanity from the parents. *This they will never forget.

10-Let them decide whether they want to go to Church or not.

11-Let them hear you criticize and talk about Bible preaching as being senseless.

Do these things and you are sure to raise a dud in humanity.

First, A Mother Should Be A Christian.

To be the mother God intended you to be, you must first be a Christian. I am not talking about being a Church member, nor being a good moral character. While these are good traits, they do not save a person. A Mother should be a woman who has given her heart and soul to Jesus Christ, one who is "born again". Are you a child of God this day?

A Christian Mothers Duties

There are duties outlined in God’s Word for the mothers and the first one is;

A Praying Mother

How often Jacob’s mother must have prayed for him after he fled from his brother in Genesis 28:42-43. How about David’s mother. How she must have prayed for her son, why just look at the results. Think of the number of children who have been saved because of a mothers prayers. A mother who got hold of God, and refused to let go until her children were saved. When the going got tough, she just keep on praying. Yes, it takes a praying mother to raise godly children!

A Watchful Mother

How many times would we have been hurt if not for the watchfulness of mother. What if we had fallen from that high porch, or slipped into the water of a nearby lake, or walked into the path of an on coming car? Praise God for a watchful mother, not only for our lives, but also for our souls.

A Happy Mother

What would our homes have been like if our mothers were always mean and hateful. think of the lost joy for those who’s mother doesn’t care. What makes a mother happy? The pitter patter of little feet coming toward her bedroom when she feels blue. The hugs of her little one when she feels that she has had it. The kiss of a little one before bed time. Many such things make a mother happy. The only thing that can keep her happy though, is the Lord Jesus Christ, letting Christ live his life fully in her. Think of how happy the virgin Mary must have been when she was told by the angel that she would give birth to the King of kings, and Lord of Lords.

A Look At Some Mothers

The first Baby

Have you ever wondered how Eve must have felt about having a baby? She had only been around one other human being; Adam her husband. How precious the child was to the first mother. He probably helped her forget that sad day in her past, when the serpent deceived her and tricked her into doubting God’s commandment to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

How she must have waited. How she planned for those months for the coming child. Think of how she picked out the name for their first baby, for no names had ever been chosen before. The name she finally chose was Cain, which meant, "a man from the Lord." Think of the wonderment she had at seeing the first baby ever born. Those tiny hands, the little feet, that small helpless body that looked like their bodies. Then came her second child, Able. How beautiful they would get along she hoped, but her hopes were in vain, for soon the tragedy came when her first son killed his brother. The first human to ever taste sin wages was Able. Think of how his mother must have weeped for him. Eves heartache continued to increase for her first son then was driven from the presence of the LORD. One son dead, and the other separated from God. That is a picture which started out beautiful but ended in tragedy for her.

Moses Mother

From Exodus 2:1-10, we read of the mother of Moses, most don’t even know her name. Her name was Jochebed, she was the wife of Amram. Many mothers are never heard of, but they are of utmost importance. Moses was born sentenced to die. His mother, a slave in the brick yard, left her son with his older sister while she worked. Moses was hid for three months, until he was to big to hide. His crying could have possibly caused his slaughter at the hands of the Egyptian soldiers. Jochebed had an escape plan for her son that was formed in heaven, God must have whispered it to her when she would pray. A basket was planned, and she selected the materials very carefully. It was woven together with a mothers tears and prayers. If mothers today would care as much for their children, there would not be as many girls in the red light section or boys who are criminals. She thanked God for the basket, and for the cargo that was more precious than jewels, her son Moses. Imagine that last night the baby was at home.

Some of you can imagine, for you remember the last night that your child lived, or the night before they were buried.

There was no sleep for Moses mother that night. The angels guarded the house from the enemy soldiers. Jochebed kissed the baby for the last time, then places him in the basket and takes it to the river bank and places it in the reeds. As tears stained her eyes, she watches the basket float on the water, but her faith never wavered. Angels would have chased away the alligators that day had they tried to get her son. The she leaves his sister Miriam to watch the results.

Pharaoh’s daughter comes to the river to bathe, and while there she sees the basket, and has a maid to get it for her, maybe she had been wanting a child, or had lost one at some time in her life. One thing we know is that she had a mothers heart. because she disobeyed her Pharaoh and keeps the baby. The baby must have looked up at her with that smile which a child always has. maybe an angel pinches him and gets him to cry at just the right time, no matter what happened, the woman had a mothers heart and loved the child. Moses sister then comes to the Pharaoh’s daughter and asks her if she needed a nurse. Pharaoh’s daughter tells her to go and she runs home to get her mother. What a blessing to Moses real mother for she was doing what she would have normally been, had not their been Pharaoh’s command to slaughter the male children of that people. And now even better she was being paid for nursing the child. What faith did this mother have in God to trust him with that precious cargo in the river that day, and what sweet reward she had returned to her.

The Keeper Of The Springs

One day there was a town at the bottom of the mountains, but high in the hills a forest dweller who took it upon himself to be, "The Keeper of The Springs." This man would parallel the hills and cleared trash and leaves from pools along the springs. The water ran and leaped from pools and falls, it dropped joyously down and was joined by other streams until it became a mighty river. The water turned mill wheels, refreshed gardens, and fountains threw it into the air in sight like diamonds. Swans sailed on it’s smooth surface, children laughed and played on the banks in the sunshine. One day the city council decided to cut their budget, so they built a reservoir above the town, the keeper of the springs was no longer needed, so he quit doing the job. He no longer visited the springs anymore. Something happened as time passed though, the water which had been pure and clean was now becoming green, and befouled. There was constant trouble in town as the machinery began to clog from the trash that was in the water, finally an epidemic raged. It hit every home, no family was left out from the sickness. Finally the city council decided it had made a mistake, so they went and found this hermit who lived in a homemade hut in the mountains, and they ask him to return to the job of "Keeper of The Springs." They broke the dam above the town and soon the water which had turned that green color began to be clear again. Mothers are like this Keeper of The Springs. Without them life would cease to be as we know it today. Mothers we love you today, God loves you today, Jesus Loves you today, and wants to save you if you do not know Him as Lord. You are very, very important to Him and to this world, and especially to your children. What kind of a mother are you today?

Become what God want you to be, as we sing come forward and make things right with the Lord.

If you are not a Christian today, please receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour by asking Him into your heart and life by prayer. Pray; Lord Jesus remember me, and save me. I believe that you died for me, and arose from the dead to forgive my sins. I repent of my sins, and trust in you as my Lord and Saviour. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray this prayer. AMEN.

If you have received Christ we would like to rejoice with you in this great decision, write to let us know and we will send you some helps in getting started in this new life in Christ.
