Text: Colossians 3:8-14
Title: Getting Dressed for the Day
Date: August 11, 2002
Introduction: Great Doctrines make great living! It isn’t enough to believe certain things or agree with certain teachings. We must accept these great doctrines to the point that they change our lives. They must translate into transformed lives.
The Christians at Colossi had accepted some great doctrines. They accepted redemption through the blood of Christ and it had changed their lives. They had accepted the preeminence of Christ and it had changed their lives. They had accepted the indwelling presence of Christ and it had changed their lives.
Paul calls for our doctrinal beliefs to change us on a daily basis. He us some things that we must “take off” and some things we must “put on.”
I PUT OFF THESE ATTITUDES (8-9)
A. Anger and wrath are destructive to those we love.
B. Malice harbors old grudges and dwells on them.
C. Blasphemy grieves the Holy Spirit.
D. Filthy language kills our public testimony.
E. Lies make us unlike our Lord who is truth.
F. These are attitudes of darkness and need to be taken off and discarded each day.
II PUT ON THESE ASSOCIATION BUILDERS (10-13)
A. Holiness
B. Mercy and Kindness
C. Humility
D. Meekness
E. Patience
F. Forgiveness
III PUT ON LOVE, THE MARK OF MATURITY
I Corinthian 13
Conclusion: Some of us need to re-dress tonight. There are some things we need to put off, and there are some things we need to put on.
