SPIDERMAN AND THE SNAKE EGGS
Youth Rally Sermon
"Spiderman" is a movie that is out right now that is about a young man who is bitten by some kind of mutant spider in a science research facility. In a short time, he is forever changed. He is no longer just another man on the street but he is changed internally.
That’s the way the sin strikes at the heart of man. If you think that the scene where the spider walks up and sinks his fangs into the skin of Spiderman, that is nothing compared to the fangs of sin that Satan sinks into your heart.
That old serpent, the Devil, Leviathan, strikes with his fangs of death, penetrates your heart and mind, and destroys your soul and you are forever changed. There is no power within you to get rid of his control over you. It can only come through the Blood of Christ!
Once sin has entered your heart, you are forever changed. When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, all of life changed for them. They lost their immortality and now the body of flesh that we live in is dying day by day – because of sin. Their lives of perfect peace, joy, love and fellowship with God ended and now we have lives that are described short and full of trouble – because of the bite of the serpent of sin. Their world of beauty and perfection suddenly filled with thorns, darkness and despair, and so we live today in a troubled society with wars and threats of war all around us, famines, earthquakes and other natural disasters. Our world is a hostile environment – because of the fangs of sin.
Spiderman, in the movie, dresses up in a brightly colored suit to disguise himself and becomes a crime fighter, who flies through the streets of the city on a web that he fires from his wrist that attaches itself and becomes as strong as a cable. That may make for a cute story and an entertaining film but I want you to know that the bite of sin in your heart doesn’t leave room for cute. It is deadly and devastating to the life of youth and people of any age.
The bite of sin brings you under bondage and holds you like a web. In fact, God, speaking through Isaiah the prophet, says that “spiritual spider men” weave the spider’s web around themselves in an attempt to hide their sin from others but it isn’t enought to hide them from God’s eyes.
Where does sin begin? What is it that causes youth to quit on God, to stop going to church, or to grow cold in their commitment to Christ? Read with me if you will.
Isaiah 59:1-5, "Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity. They hatch cockatrice’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper."

Sin enters our heart as we are bitten by the fangs of sin when we allow Satan to plant evil thoughts, called “snake eggs of sin” – all sorts of sin – into our mind and then we allow them to stay and grow until the eggs hatch. Satan plants those eggs in your mind by entering through the ear, eye, and the mouth and seeks fertile ground that will allow those “snake eggs” to stay and grow.
In this congregation, right now, I know that there are snake eggs being planted. Whether those eggs will grow and hatch will depend upon how we treat those snake eggs of thought from the pits of hell.
The mind is the birthplace of what grows in the heart, and thoughts are the seed that is planted. Evil thoughts are “snake eggs”, which will become deadly vipers if the seed is not immediately destroyed.
God looks at what is going on inside of the mind. He judges not by outward appearances; He considers the heart and God knows the very thoughts and intent of your heart and mind.
God’s people, in Israel were worshipping with lip service. They cried a loud amen to every call to holiness. They appeared to be devout lovers of truth. But their minds were snake dens. Their minds were nests filled with serpent eggs, and they were sitting in God’s presence, hatching evil thoughts. Their minds were poisoned; they were thinking of idols. They were weaving spider webs with flimsy excuses to do what they wanted, even if it was against the laws of God.
There is nothing harmless or innocent about evil thoughts. If they are not cast down immediately they can poison the soul.
Some Christians let the enemy sow evil thoughts in their minds, and then let the thoughts linger, doing nothing about them, not realizing the danger.
Evil thoughts become strongholds for powers of hell in your mind. Satan plants the thought. He is determined to keep it alive and protect it until it conceives and becomes a full grown serpent. To allow that thought to stay in your mind and put up with them is to hatch a snake. God says pull it down, cast it out, bring every single thought into captivity. Let not a single evil thought be allowed to roam at will.
But we don’t kill those evil thoughts. We don’t resist the devil. We allow him to hang around until the roots of sin are running deep into the heart.
Once sin has taken hold, that’s when we begin to weave our web of deceit to fool those around us!
That web of deceit is fired from your mouth, your hands, your feet and your eyes. The web that we fire is stronger than any steel cable and it will never allow us to go free. It becomes a web that traps us and can only be broken by the power of the Blood of Jesus Christ.
Our Christian friends come around and we fire our web of lies and deceit at them and it sticks fast. We feel as though we are free momentarily from the condemnation that comes over us because of the sin and we “swing away”, going on our merry way thinking that we have fooled our friends.
The preacher preaches a sermon that reminds us of the web we are weaving and the sin that we entertain. It is as though he can read our mind and he knows the “snake eggs” we are beginning to hatch! So – POW! – We throw a web of deceit at him to make him believe that all is well between us and the Lord.
Mom and Dad try their best to find out what you are doing so that they can help keep you from harm and you fire a web of rebellion and suspicion at them to make them powerless to do anything for you.
That web fires from your mouth to spin a web of lies. It fires from your eyes as a web of stares and a look that sends daggers into another person. All of this is because we have allowed the “snake eggs” to grow and we haven’t cast them out.
What “snake eggs” are in your mind right now? What evil thoughts has Satan planted in the fertile place of your mind? How close are those eggs to hatching into deadly vipers that strike out at your heart and at everyone around you?
Snake eggs take a while to hatch and that’s why we must cast them out immediately. Let’s take a look at some of the snake eggs and see what vipers are hatched from them.
Rejection leads to hate
Hate leads to murder
Do you think that those kids who brought guns to school and killed their teachers and some of their own friends just did so on a whim. NO! The rejection, day after day, and the hate that grew from it, grew and grew. They thought on it, planned their revenge, and, finally, the viper was hatched and Murder entered their heart!
But we don’t need a gun or knife to murder another person, because we can bring false accusations, embarrassment and gossip into motion and the tongue can destroy and kill the witness and life of another just as easily. Rejection grew into hate and hate hatched into a deadly viper of murder.
Pornography is the seed that Satan plants. When that seed grows it will result in rape and kidnapping!
Pornography has become an epidemic problem in America and around the world. One statistic that I read said that there have been 120 million new subscribers to pornography on the Internet in the last 12 months alone. Whether these figures are correct or not, the problem is still there and it growing rapidly.
Do you think that the serial killer in our area just woke up one day and decided to start kidnapping, raping and killing women? NO – I am no police detective but knowing the heart of man and how “snake eggs” grow in the mind, there is no doubt that this man watched acts of violence, rape and murder too many times. Perhaps he has been rejected by members of the opposite sex and has a vendetta against them. He allowed the snake eggs of murder, rape and kidnapping to hatch into a deadly viper that strikes at anyone who comes around.
There are other “snake eggs” that Satan plants in your mind too. Those snake eggs will also hatch into deadly vipers.
Greed, when it is hatched, results in the vipers of robbery and theft
Self-gratification, when it is hatched, brings selfishness, broken marriages
Materialism, the love of the things of this world, allowed to grow unchecked, results in tremendous debt and bankruptcy
Meddling in the occult, even in small ways, will hatch vipers of demonic oppression and maybe even, demon possession
Why do so many youth, and adults alike, who get delivered go back to their old habits? Why is the grip of sin not broken? Because, when evil thoughts are later planted by lying spirits, they are not immediately cast down.
Let a single lustful thought stay in the mind for even 30 seconds, and it will take hold. Soon it becomes an egg, with a snake waiting to be hatched. That is why God’s Word literally screams, "Cast out the wicked thought!"
I have heard those youth, and adults, who will come to me and say, “I just can’t live for Jesus. I’ve tried, I just can’t do it.”
The problem is not that you can’t, but that you won’t! If I could follow you around constantly, seeing everything that you do for the next 7 days, I could tell you why you “can’t live for Jesus”. It’s because you won’t turn loose of the world. Satan has planted his “snake eggs” in your mind and you are allowing them to grow. It won’t be long until they begin to hatch, then we will all know that you were only shooting your webs of deceit and playing Christian.
If you are riding down the highway in a car doing 70 miles per hour and there is a fly in the car that is flying around. Why doesn’t that fly splat against the back window? It’s because he is carried along with his environment. He has no idea that just outside the window is certain death.
That’s the way it is for those who won’t resist the devil as he plants those “snake eggs” in their mind. They dwell on the thought and allow it grown and hatch into deadly sin. They are easily persuaded that everything is okay, no matter what they do. They are carried along by the crowd, forgetting that the pits of hell lie just ahead. The webs of deceit that they have fired at everyone who tries to help them has resulted in an unbreakable wall between them and what is right in the sight of God.
Young people who are caught in the web of deceit and are stricken by the deadly vipers in their mind are easy to spot.
They are the hardest to reach with the gospel. They are blinded to what they are doing. They are walking in darkness and don’t even know it. They have become strangers to God. They develop a dual personality.
Isaiah 59:11 says that they, “roar all like bears and mourn like doves..." One minute they are ready to tear friend or foe apart - mean, violent, and angry. The next hour they cry, "I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean it; help me, please."
Today young women stay with boyfriends who beat them because at times they are so kind and gentle. Bro. David Wilkerson puts it this way, “… God will have nothing to do with these up and down moods. These wild mood swings mean that there is satanic poison at work. The Spirit of Christ is always gentle, loving, kind, and long suffering. Never violent. Never roaring like a bear.”
Some of you right now are allowing snake eggs into your mind. You can’t wait until this service is over so you can run to fulfill some of the thoughts that have come to your mind. You can’t keep the thoughts from coming but you have total control over how long you will allow them to stay. Either get rid of the snake eggs or they will hatch and destroy you.
Most people sit on those old snake eggs like a brooding mother hen. Don’t touch my egg. It’s sacred to me. I like my beautiful egg. I won’t let it go and you can’t touch it. It’s mine! You will hold on to that snake egg until it destroys your soul. Don’t tell me I’m wrong! Don’t preach to me about holiness, righteousness and sanctification! Let me “work out my salvation in my own way”.
It’s not your way, young man or young lady, its God’s Way or no way at all!
It doesn’t have to end in your destruction though! If you have allowed some snake eggs to hang around; if you have allowed evil thoughts and desires to weigh heavily upon your mind, it’s time to destroy them right now!
How can you destroy those snake eggs? Get full of the Holy Ghost and you won’t have room for snake eggs. Renew your mind by thinking upon those things that are good, righteous and holy.
There is no Spiderman superhero to come to your rescue this time. Neither yourself, nor any other man has the power to deliver you from Satan’s snares of your heart, mind and soul.
Jesus Christ, through the power of His blood, can cleanse every sin, every guilt and every shame. He can and he will destroy the power of Satan over your mind if you will surrender to God’s will.
You can spin that web of the power of love and it always holds tight! You can weave a web of truth and righteousness and it will never leave you cold or closed in! You can live your dreams and enjoy the best that God has for you. You can kill the snake eggs, destroy the web of deceit and live a life of victory but only through the Blood of the Lamb and the Power of Jesus Christ! Get full of the Holy Ghost and you won’t have room for any of Satan’s tricks.
Are the snake eggs there already? It’s time to get them out!
Get them out now before they hatch into deadly vipers!
Quit trying to be a “Spiritual Spiderman” and become a child of the King!
