The weakest Link Pt 2
We’ve discovered how the tongue is the mixer, that brings the ingredients of our faith together, We saw how Joshua and Caleb mixed faith with the promises of God, and how the rest did not.
We saw that their failure to mix faith with the promises of God kept them out of the promise land.
We saw that the tongue is mixing either faith or unbelief, The tongue is either the instrument of life or of death
*We see how vital the link is between what we confess and what we possess.
*We found that faith in the heart overflows from the mouth.
*We found that whatever is in abundance in the heart overflows from the mouth whether good or bad.
*We found that our faith keeps step with our confession.
We understand that there is no such thing as silent faith, faith always makes it’s presence known through a strong confession.
Ps 116:10 I believed, therefore have I spoken:
Paul quoting David said:
2Co 4:13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
Phm 1:6 That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
Communication (Koinonia) = fellowship, association, community, communion, joint participation,
1a) the share which one has in anything,
Our share of What belongs to us in Christ becomes effectual or active and operative by our acknowledging of every good thing which is in us in Christ Jesus.
*We find that what God has said is the legal aspect of our faith, but it is what we say about what God has said that establishes it in our lives and makes it a vital or living reality.
#1 The obvious truth is that it is impossible to have a confession in agreement with God if you do not know what God has said.
Ho 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge:
So we must study the word of God.
#2 Once we know what God has said it is our responsibility to establish that truth in our lives by agreeing with God with our confession of faith.
Job 22:28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
The faith God had overflowed from his mouth.
Heb 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Faith is born in the heart but it is released through the mouth
Mt 8:8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
Mr 5:23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
Before the tongue can become the instrument of life Many times it must be healed
There is a disease among cattle called Hoof & Mouth disease, I do not exactly what that is but I do know it has to do with the foot and the mouth.
In the spiritual realm our feet or walk is very much dependant upon our mouths, If our mouths are out of alignment then our walk is going to be inconsistent and unstable.
Ps 50:23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.
There are several diseases of the tongue that can destroy the faith walk of the believer
#1 Excessive talking ( There is a phrase: Loose lips sink ships, The thought is that someone who talks all the time will eventually say something they shouldn’t say). The bible says it this way.
Pr 10:19 ¶ In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin:
Eph 5:1-2 ¶ Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.
2 Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.
Then it really gets tight Vs 3
3.a fool’s voice is known by multitude of words.
#2 Idle or Careless Words: These are words that are spoken with the knowledge that maybe you will maybe you won’t They are words that carry no weight because you have not committed yourself to stand behind them.
One of the greatest Anointings of the Holy Spirit will come on your life when what you say and what you do agree.
If you are not going to pray for me, don’t say you are.
If you are not going to call don’t say you will.
If you are not going to be available to do something, don’t say that you will.
Words are careless and idle when it makes no difference to you whether they are fulfilled or not.
When people say things about you like, I’ll believe it when I see it, or I’ll believe it when I see the whites of your eyes, or I wouldn’t count on it.
Or I know he or she means well, (It probably means that we have gained a reputation for speaking careless or Idle words.
Mt 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
I know that I am guilty of this, and that it is an area that I am working on, I want my words to have power, and for my words to have power I must eliminate careless and idle words from my communication.
#3 Gossiping
Lev 19:16 Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.
Pr 11:13 A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
Pr 26:22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
Pr 25:23 ¶ The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
#4 Lying
Pro 12:22 ¶ Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
Jn 8:44 Jesus speaking of the devil said: When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Jesus also said: Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do.
When we lie we manifest the character and the nature of the devil, for he is the father of all lies.
Rev 21:7-8 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
#5 Flattery
Ps 12:1-3 Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
2 They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
3 The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:
Pro 26:28 ¶ A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
Pro 29:5 ¶ A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.
Flattery is a excessive praise with ulterior motive.
Flattery is a tool of manipulation.
#6 Negativism (The backsliding tongue)
You can never make any progress in the christian life with a backsliding, perverse negative speaking tongue.
Pr 4:24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
Pr 19:1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
Pr 17:20 He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.
Perverse (=) To turn back, to make crooked, to turn or to twist.
When we speak Negatively concerning Gods word and his ways, then our tongues are perverse.
This is what Israel did at the promised land, they spoke perversely concerning the promises of God and his provisions for them, (The result #1 The 10 spies died of the plague #2 The children of Israel wandered in the wilderness till all unbelief was gone). All because of Perverseness (negativism)
It is impossible to walk with a forward walking God with a backsliding tongue
One of the symptoms of negativism in a persons life is grumbling, and murmuring, People murmur and grumble when they don’t agree with something, or they think they could do something better than it’s being done.
Philip 2:14-15 ¶ Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
#7 The confused tongue
You have a confused tongue when you speak one thing one day and another thing another day, You have a confused tongue when what you say is based upon your external circumstances.
The danger of the confused tongue is it confuses the heart,
Jam 1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
If you do not bring your tongue into alignment with the word of God you can deceive your own heart.
The heart is the soil out of which everything in your life grows, The confused tongue sows conflicting seeds in the heart.
Pr 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Lev 19:19 thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed:
If you have a confused tongue, you are sowing your field with mingled seed, and even though you may occasionally sow good seed, the bad seed will poison your field.
A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
If we want our walk with God to be whole and healthy, We must have our tongues whole and healthy.
Jms 1:6 says: (the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
