Getting to the other side
Mark 4:35-41
At some point in our walk Jesus calls each of us to ”pass over to the other side with Him.”
Passing over to the other side usually means to cross some obstacle. What’s yours?
Here are some spiritual principles we find as Jesus sought to help the disciples “pass to the other side.”
1. Get in the boat. vs. 35-36
Obey
At the end of this passage the disciples say that the wind and the sea obey Him, sometimes aren’t as smart.
Jesus said “Let us pass over to the other side.” (Wait for the spirit)
The disciples had a choice. (Free will)
2. Expect the storms. vs. 37
Stay
Eph 6:11-12 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Satan means “the enemy”. An enemy is someone who opposes you. Satan is not only our enemy, but first and foremost he is God’s.
Jesus was about to heal the Demoniac at Gadarene. Later on it says that he went to preach about Jesus in all of Decapolis.
Gentiles = All the rest.
3. Cry out to the Lord. vs. 38
Pray
James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
They knew they were powerless against the storm, but they knew somebody who wasn’t.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded
4. Praise His name. vs. 41
Praise
The disciples were awe struck. We can learn something from their wonderment.
Col 3:16-17 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
