Why Jesus Came (John6: 38-40)
Pre Intro: When Jesus came into this world, His coming was three-fold. First he came as a baby in a manger. It’s nice to think about Jesus as a baby especially at Christmas time, but his mission was not to be just a cute baby for everyone to look at. The second phase of His coming was as a LAMB THAT WAS LED TO SLAUGHTER . It was His sacrifice in this phase that gave us the opportunity to be REDEEMED. The third phase is when He comes back again as a reigning KING, the LION of the TRIBE of JUDAH.
“Why Jesus Came?”
Intro: Even as we’re singing about “joy to the world” and “peace on earth,” our world is filled with wars and rumors of wars. How we need to understand the REAL MEANING OF CHRISTMAS. Some of the most helpful information about our Lord’s mission comes from His “I have come” statements. He looked down on this Sin stained, World, and saw the hopelessness of His creation. Realizing their need for a Savior; He purposed in His heart to leave His Throne in Glory and come to this world. Let’s look in the Holy Word and see what Jesus said about why He came
Text: 38 I came down from heaven to do what God wants me to do, not what I want to do. 39 Here is what the One who sent me wants me to do: I must not lose even one whom God gave me, but I must raise them all on the last day. 40 Those who see the Son and believe in him have eternal life, and I will raise them on the last day. This is what my Father wants.”

He Came to Bring a Fire
Luke12:49-53
49 “I came to set fire to the world, and I wish it were already burning! 50 I have a baptism to suffer through, and I feel very troubled until it is over. 51 Do you think I came to give peace to the earth? No, I tell you, I came to divide it. 52 From now on, a family with five people will be divided, three against two, and two against three. 53 They will be divided: father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”
Luke 3:16
16 John answered everyone, “I baptize you with water, but there is one coming who is greater than I am. I am not good enough to untie his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 He will come ready to clean the grain, separating the good grain from the chaff. He will put the good part of the grain into his barn, but he will burn the chaff with a fire that cannot be put out.”

He Came to Represent His Father
John 5:43
43 I have come from my Father and speak for him, but you don’t accept me. But when another person comes, speaking only for himself, you will accept him
Heb. 1:1-4
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets many times and in many different ways. 2 But now in these last days God has spoken to us through his Son. God has chosen his Son to own all things, and through him he made the world. 3 The Son reflects the glory of God and shows exactly what God is like. He holds everything together with his powerful word. When the Son made people clean from their sins, he sat down at the right side of God, the Great One in heaven. 4 The Son became much greater than the angels, and God gave him a name that is much greater than theirs.
Col. 1:15-20
15 No one can see God, but Jesus Christ is exactly like him. He ranks higher than everything that has been made. 16 Through his power all things were made—things in heaven and on earth, things seen and unseen, all powers, authorities, lords, and rulers. All things were made through Christ and for Christ. 17 He was there before anything was made, and all things continue because of him. 18 He is the head of the body, which is the church. Everything comes from him. He is the first one who was raised from the dead. So in all things Jesus has first place. 19 God was pleased for all of himself to live in Christ. 20 And through Christ, God has brought all things back to himself again—things on earth and things in heaven. God made peace through the blood of Christ’s death on the cross.
When we see Jesus; we see the image of God the Father
All the fullness of God dwells in Jesus Christ
He Came to Preach a Message
Mark 1:35
35 Early the next morning, while it was still dark, Jesus woke and left the house. He went to a lonely place, where he prayed. 36 Simon and his friends went to look for Jesus. 37 When they found him, they said, “Everyone is looking for you!”
38 Jesus answered, “We should go to other towns around here so I can preach there too. That is the reason I came.” 39 So he went everywhere in Galilee, preaching in the synagogues and forcing out demons.
Mark 1:14
14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, preaching the Good News from God. 15 He said, “The right time has come. The kingdom of God is near. Change your hearts and lives and believe the Good News!”
He came to preach the Good News
(1) That man can go to Heaven and live eternal
(2) That Jesus paid the price
Here we are, separated from God by sin, trapped on a doomed planet, facing death and hell. And God Himself became a man, dying in our place, rising from the dead to give us life. Is that good news? Yes, but it’s more than good news. We don’t have a word to describe it. The angels put it: “Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior.”
More than a savior; a redeemer
He Came to Illumine a World
John 12:46
46 I have come as light into the world so that whoever believes in me would not stay in darkness.
“I have come as a light.” The world is a drab, miserable place, filled with sin’s darkness. But Jesus came, offering His indescribable gift. His presence dispels the gloom, lighting up our world and our lives.
The light of God penetrates the darkest crevices of this sin stained world
He Came to Enrich Us A more abundant life
John 10:10
10 A thief comes to steal and kill and destroy, but I came to give life—life in all its fullness.
He came to give the riches of Heaven to us both in this life and the next

Many of us forget we have endless supplies of grace, joy, peace. We don’t have to worry about our spiritual reserves, but we’ve got to tap into them by faith. If we’re committed to Christ and walking in the Spirit, we have an ocean of God’s blessing to draw from every day.
Conclusion:
He came for you! He knew you before you were born, and He loves you. He came to give you good news, to light up your life, to give you abundant life. Let this Christmas be the one you really celebrate!
