It is said that the most important date in the life of a person is it’s birthday. You can forget everything else about that person, and most of all if its your family, but you dare not forget their birthday.
Today we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. He surely was not born in this time of year, but it’s the time society already has to observe this great event in history.
According to what Luke 2:8 says; His birth is placed somewhere after April through September.
As I was driving and listening to the radio, I heard a preacher saying it is wrong to celebrate the birth of Jesus during this time of year…since its history is pagan.
Lets focus on several things:
I. THE BIRTH OF JESUS SHOULD BE CELEBRATED.
A. The shepherds did. (Luke 2:20)
B. The heavenly hosts did. (Luke 2:13,14)
C. The word itself encourages it.
1.Christ-mas “mass”-“public celebration of the Lords Supper”
2.Christian feast remembering Christ.
II. THE BIRTH OF JESUS SHOULD BE CELEBRATED WITH FAMILY.
A. A celebration is no celebration without family.
B. Family passes down important traditions like:
2. The reading of Scripture.
2. Prayer & thanksgiving.
C. It is an opportunity to say things to family members: (Gal.6:10)
3. I miss you.
3. I love you.
3. Forgive me.
3. Thanks for what you have done. Etc.
III. THE BIRTH OF JESUS SHOULD BE OUR SOURCE OF HOPE.
C. For our present. (Ps.62:5; 71:5)
3. We are not alone.
3. We have a source of joy.
C. For our future. (Ps.91:2)
3. The Lord is in control - why worry?
3. The Lord is my Savior- of whom shall I fear?
CONCLUSION:
Let us celebrate Jesus with all our hearts and be surrounded with His love.
