Text: Proverbs 13:15; Matthew 11:28-30
Introduction:
Often times in our walk with God we become tired, burdened down and heavy laden. But we must remember that in our walk with Jesus when these times come, and they will come, that turning our back on Christ is not the answer. We should simply do as he instructed us in His Word. That is simply, come unto me. As hard as it might seem to be to live for God at this moment; remember there is a path that you can walk in that is harder than this.
I. When should we come unto Jesus?
A. When we have been laboring. (v.28)
1. G2872- êïðéÜù, from a derivative of G2873; to feel fatigue; by implication to work hard :—( bestow) labour, toil, and be wearied.
B. When we are heavy laden. (v. 28)
1. G5412- öïñôßæù, From G5414; to load up (properly as a vessel or animal), that is, (figuratively) to overburden with ceremony (or spiritual anxiety):—lade, be heavy laden.
II. Why should we come unto Jesus?
A. You can find rest for your souls. (v.28, 29)
1. V.28 G373 Píáðáýù, From G303 and G3973; (reflexively) to repose (literally or figuratively (be exempt), remain); by implication to refresh:—take ease, refresh, (give, take) rest.
2. v. 29 G372 PíÜðáõóéò, From G373; intermission; by implication recreation:—rest.
B. His yoke is easy (v. 30)
1. G5543-÷ñçóôüò, From G5530; employed, that is, (by implication) useful (in manner or morals):—better, easy, good (-ness), gracious, kind.
C. His Burden is light (v. 30).
1. Burden-G5413, öïñôßïí, , Diminutive of G5414; an invoice (as part of freight), that is, (figuratively) a task or service:—burden.
2. Light- G1645, dëáöñüò, Probably akin to G1643 and the base of G1640; light, that is, easy:—light.
D. The way of the transgressors is hard. Proverbs 13:15 (KJV) 15Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.
1. Transgressors- H898 , , ,, A primitive root; to cover (with a garment); figuratively to act covertly; by, implication to pillage:—deal deceitfully (treacherously, unfaithfully), offend, transgress (-or), (depart), treacherous (dealer, -ly, man), unfaithful (-ly, man), X very.
2. Hard- H386, , from an unused root (meaning to continue); permanence; hence (concretely) permanent; specifically a chieftain:—hard, mighty, rough, strength, strong.
Conclusion:
We see in God’s Word that Jesus desires us to come to Him when we are in trouble. Running away from Jesus is not the answer. We can clearly see as the light of God’s Word shines in our hearts that the way of Jesus is easier than the way of the transgressors. Will you choose to come to Jesus or will you choose to run away from Jesus and walk in the way of the transgressors?
