JUMP THE SHARK
Sometimes new terms come into modern pop culture that catch us guard.
I remember the first time I hear “You da bomb”.
Party animal for somebody that lives for getting drunk.
You da bomb for somebody you actually like.
Back before bad meant tough or dangerous it actually meant bad
These are modern pop culture terms and they change by the minute.
There is a new term in pop culture that I want to introduce to those of yall that don’t know and it’s called JUMPING THE SHARK
To jump the shark is a term for when good things go bad.
For some shows it was when they changed from black and white to color
The munsters, the Beverly hillbillies and Andy Griffith all jumped the shark when color came to town
For some shows it was when a baby was introduced to cast
I love Lucy jumped the shark when little Ricky hit the scene
The Flintstones only lasted two years once pebbles was born
Scooby doo only lasted one once scrappy doo showed up
Sometimes a good show would go bad once somebody died
For mash it was colonel Blake
For Looney tunes it Mel blank
Sometimes its when somebody leaves a show for just other reasons
All in the family jumped the shark when meathead and Gloria left for California
Happy days jumped the shark when Richey left
The point when something jumps the shark is when something happens that causes a good thing to go bad.
Adam and eve
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
(1) Adam where are you and who told you you were naked?
He could of just cut to the chase by answering the question that God wanted him to answer. This is the conclusion that God wanted Adam to come to.
“I am hiding from your presence because I listened to the serpent”
Why didn’t God just point this out to Adam because it doesn’t do Adam any good that God knows the truth? Jesus says you shall now the truth and the truth shall make you free. It is not the Truth that sets you free it is knowing the truth that sets you free and until you know it, it can never help you one bit.
The moment they no longer put a priority on what God says
The moment they began to get tolerant of other ideas that didn’t come from God
The moment they began to listen to somebody’s word other than God
The Just shall live by Faith. Faith comes from hearing God almighty speak to your heart
A CHRISTIAN JUMPS THE SHARK EVERY SINGLE TIME HE STOPS BECOMING DEPENDNANT ON WHAT GOD SAYS
David, who had the badest army in the whole world saw his army get wiped out when started to rely on the numbers of men and not on the commands of the Lord
Moses who had it made with God in a relationship that the bible says was face to face go bared from going into the promise when he stopped doing things by what God said and started listening to what the mob said
There are places where you hear God speak
Church doing the work of the Lord reading and meditating on is word Prayer
(1) Church
Matthew 13:52 Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe ( teacher ) which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.
The NIV says…. out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old."
There are 2 things that should every single time you come to this church and hear me speak the word. (1) You should hear something new. In other words you should see something that you have never seen. You should be inspired in a brand new way. You should leave here with something of faith that you didn’t come here with.
(2) You should hear something old. In other words I should CONFIRM something that you have already been hearing the Lord speak to your heart this week.
You need to come to church and you need to expect God to speak to you in an awesome way. SOMETIME A REVELATION FROM GOD IS NOT TAUGHT, sometimes it is CAUGHT. And if you are not there to catch it, you missed a million dollar home run ball that was hit into your part of the bleachers.
(2) The 2nd place you hear God speak to your heart
DOING THE WORK OF THE LORD
(a) You cant out give God
(b) Its more blessed to give than to receive
(3) The 3rd place you hear God speak is through
READING AND MEDITATING ON HIS WORD
(a) books, tapes the reading of the word
(b) favorite radio preacher your favorite TV preacher
The 4th place you hear God speak
PRAYER
Personal time (the covenant prayer time) prayer walking
Keeping your self plugged in
God wants you to prosper this year but there has to be a priority of living by faith and if there is a priority of living by Faith then there has to be a priority of hearing God speak because Faith comes from hearing the Word (God spiritually speaking to your heart. If that was natural hearing then deaf people could never have faith)
Don’t you jump the shark! Keep yourself plugged into God’s Throne. Keep your self dependent on the voice of God. Keep your walk a walk of progression.
Matthew 13:16
But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
your blesses to get what you get. Don’t you let yourself take it for granted. You take it to the next level.
