ROMANS 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?
(2) God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer there in?
This text was chosen for this message in Gods word to bring out the truth about the doctrine of once
saved always saved. Paul preached against it, I find no biblical truth in this once saved always saved
doctrine, many scriptures will follow in this message to back up my point by the word of God.
Once saved always saved?
If you believe this doctrine I hope you are correct. Personally I find too many biblical scriptures to the contrary. I believe in eternal security only if you live a holy life before God. Well some would say then you believe we are saved by works. In no way do I even attempt to teach that doctrine. I believe we are saved by grace. What is the definition of Grace? It is unmeritted favor. Let me stop here and ask you a question does God favor sin? Think about it. lets look at where the doctrine of once saved always saved originated. This is called the doctrine of Apostasy. This teaching states you could never fall from grace. If this doctrine were correct it would be a liscense to sin. This doctrine states you will not surley die or in other words go to hell no mater what you may do once you are saved. My dear friend look where this originated. It all started in the book of Genesis. When the Serpent lied and said "ye shall not surely die"(Gen. 3:4). Think about it, because it is just as possible to eat forbidden fruit today in the day which we live. Eve believed this false doctrine and believed she would not die. many believe this same false doctrine today. Before we present scriptures to prove what I am stating I would like for you to reason. (Isaiah 1:18 come now let us reason together). Jesus saves us from sin not in sin. You can not be a sinner and a Christian at the same time. You see my dear friend in Christ, you can not feast at the lords table and the table of demons at the same time (1 Cor. 10:21) Lets take a fallen saint Judas to be specific, well some say he was the son of perdition, which he was. Some will say you can not use him as an example because he was under the law, but what I can say about him also refers to all mankind. (And Jesus said unto him no man, having put his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. )( Luke 9:62). The bible mentions the backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways:(Prov. 14:4). Why then pray for a backslider? Did he not once have to be saved to backslide? This would contradict the doctrine of once saved always saved, why pray for them if they can not be lost? How could they be a backslider ? Why would the bible mention a backslider if people could not backslide? Reason this in your mind. Remember the New testement is written to christian believers, lost people do not ordinarly read their bible now do they? So it is to the saved. To help us stay saved and on the winning side for Jesus. If a saved person were to commit a sin which I fill at liberty to say we have all done wrong, We have an advocate with the Father (1John 2:1). If you believe the doctrine of Apostasy (once saved always saved) then you are saying this scripture is beneath you since you are saved and cannot be lost again. You are stating you do not need an advocate, the bible says clearly we need one my friend. You still state you can do any sin and still make it into heaven, the bible states differently. There is no getting around Galatians 5:19-21. which states: Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleaness, lasciviousness, (20) Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,(21) Envyings, murders, drunkeness, revellings, and such like, of the which I tell you before as I have also told you in times past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. This was Paul’s writting to the Galatian church. If a person commits one of these after being saved and does not ask forgiveness then according to the word of God they shall not inherit the kingdom of God, since there is no other place other than heaven or hell I would reason here that hell would be their home. I know the doctrine of Apostasy does not teach a saved person cannot sin, which would be an even greater falsehood, but it teaches a man could never do anything that would cause him to go to hell, well my friend what do you do about the scripture in Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin wilfully (notice the word here wilfully we can wilfully sin or it would not mention it here) after we have received the knowledge (only Christians that are saved have received the knowledge of the truth), of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins. This is where you must I state must go back to the foot of the cross and repent, this is where you need your advocate. Romans 8:13 For if you live after the flesh ye shall die: but if you through the spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Say for instance you are saved, you start to live after the flesh, the bible states you shall surley die. One very outstanding scripture to the contrary of the doctrine of Apostasy is Hebrew 12:15 looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God. My friend reason here why would the bible say fail of the grace of God if we could not fail or fall from grace, think about it. I Corinthians 10:1-6 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, (2) And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea. (3) And did all eat the same spiritual meat. (4) And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. (5) But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. (6) Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. Now see here in this previous scripture these things were given as examples. The children of Israel had many among them that God was not pleased with, they all did drink of that spiritual rock which was Jesus, but they were overthrown in the wilderness and died there, why because of sin and their murmmerings. reading further down in this same chapter (1 Cor. 10:9) Neither let us tempt Christ as some of them also murmured and were destroyed of the destroyer. (11) now all these things happened unto them for examples; and they are written for our admontion. Remember friend here they all partook of the spiritual rock which was Jesus but some her failed of the grace of God this is our example given in this text. Paul stated in Romans 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? (2) God forbid. how shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therin? The doctrine of Apostasy gives you free lisence to sin and still make it into heaven without ever asking forgiveness, is that not contrary to Paul’s teachings here? reason my friend.
Anything born can die. Rather it be a physical death or a spiritual death. A person can also be born dead, physically or spiritually. Example they can come to an alter of repentance and never go any further. They would be what I call spiritually born dead a still birth. A scripture a lot of people of the doctrine of Apostasy like to use to support their belief is found in 1John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remainth in him: and he cannot sin because he is born of God. Look my friend at the wording here his seed remaineth in him. (Jesus said in John 6:63 the words I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.) Luke 8:11-13 Tells us Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.( Notice previously in 1 John 3:9 he does not commit sin as long as his seed remaineth) lets read on a little further in Luke 8:12 Those by the way side are they that hear: then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. (13) They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy: and these have no root. which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. Reason here your seed can be removed these in this verse recieved the word with joy believed for awhile, were tempted and lost their seed the word of God. We see here the devil took the seed out of their hearts, Salvation can be lost if we alow the enemy to rob us. Lets look at 2peter 2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, (who is he speaking of here? the saved correct?) they are again entangled therin, (uh-oh does this not state we can become again entangled therin again? (backslide) and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. (21) For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than after they have known it to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. ( Think about this scripture as it is written why would it mention they once knew the way of righteousness and they turned from it unless it could be done why would the word mention it if it were impossible to do as in the doctrine of Apostasy.) (22) But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, the dog is turned to his own vomit again: and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. My friend we may conclude here you could have once walked with God had a meaningful relationship, but if you go back in to sin which according to these scriptures you can God is displeased If your latter end is worse than your beginning which we see here can happen this means you would be more full of sin than you were when Jesus first saved you. They once had a way of righteousness. 2 Peter 1:9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Does this not mean you can fall from grace? 2Peter 2:4 God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, reserved to judgement My friend ask yourself are we more secure than the angels? Can Christians sin and get away with it? The angels could not. If you believe the doctrine of Apostasy and perhaps you should sin and do not repent of that sin please explain to me how your doctrine could completely do away with and is contrary to: Rev. 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it, any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lambs book of life. Also look back at the book of Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white rainment: and I will not blot his name out of the book of life. If Jesus said here he would not blot a name we may concloude those that do not overcome he will blot out. You see my friend if you die with sin in your life your name could be removed. A prime example of a back slidden Christian may be found in Acts the 5th chapter A man named Ananias and his wife Sapphira both were part of the early church. They kept back a portion of funds from land they had sold and lied before God and before man. This sin cost them their life both the bible said lied and gave up the ghost, they had lied to the Holy Ghost.
my friend where do you think the judgement would find these two which had lied to the Holy Ghost and died? There are many ways we may defile this temple meaning that we are the temple of God. (1Cor. 3:16) If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy: for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. Tell me friend if a man should defile this temple of God and not ask or seek forgiveness does it not say here God shall destroy? pray tell how do you get around this? (Luke 9:23) And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
If you believe the doctrine of Apostasy It does away with this scripture and makes it to no avail you might as well remove it from the word of God. Meaning if there is nothing you can do to ever go to hell once you have been saved it would not be necessary to pick up your cross why should you. According to the word of God (Mathew 10:22) He that endureth to the end shall be saved. My friend how do you explain this scripture believing the doctrine of Apostasy? If you believe that way then you don’t have to endure until the end now do you? That means you might as well rip this verse out of your bible because it doesn’t apply to your belief either. Why do you think Paul stated in (1Cor. 15:31) I die daily? The great Apostle that he was had to pray and die out daily to sin. If Paul believed the doctrine of once saved always saved he would not have to die daily would he? Are we greater or closer to Jesus than the Apostle Paul? (2Tim 4:2) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine but after their own lust shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears and they shall turn their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. think about it, was this not what Eve did in the garden of eden believed she would not surely die as the serpent had told her, where the doctrine of Apostasy began, teaching there is nothing you can do after salvation that can send you to hell. Is that not saying not only thou shalt surely not die but it is also impossible for you to fall from grace.
Paul tells us in Galatians 1:7 there be some that trouble you and would pervert the gospel of Christ (It would pervert the gospel to say you may sin as much as you want and still make it into heaven, Apostasy doctrine would mean Jesus bled for our sins so we could sin some more.) But though we or an angel from heaven, preach any other Gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Remember this was the same Paul that said he died daily (to sin) He never once taught once saved always saved. Which Gospel did Paul preach? Reason within your spirit here please. This all comes down to a question not will you fall from Grace but can you? can you lie? can you quit going to church? sure you can do all these and the bible clearly tells us we can fall from grace.
We are to be a seperate people saith the lord (2Cor 6:17). How can we be a seperate people if we are living like the world, acording to the doctrine of Apostasy it doesnt matter how we live we are still on our way to heaven (Mark 7:13) making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye. You see my friend in Christ the church is like a marriage. If you took a bride and didn’t take her home with you, didn’t communicate with her, did not have a true meaninful relationship, how long would it last? You could still say I am married, I am married but you would not have any true relationship. You would be apart from one another its the same with the doctrine of once saved always saved, you can say I was once saved and now I am always saved but it wouldn’t mean a thing if you were not truly in a relationship with Jesus, now would it? This short text in no way covers all the scriptuial statements contrary to once saved always saved. I personally think we must live a life in a relationship of loving the lord Jesus Christ above all things, If you still believe in eternal security and you can do what ever you like and still make it into heaven ask yourself the question, is hell worth the risk if I am wrong? If you live a holy life before an almighty God you will be eternally secure.
