GIVING THANKS AT THANKSGIVING
PS 92:1-4
1. WE SHOULD GIVE THANKS FOR JESUS –
A. For His devotion to the Father – Luke 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
B. For His finished Work – John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
2. Thanks for the Holy Spirit – For His convicting power John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
B. For His leadership - Ro:8:14: For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
3. GIVE THANKS FOR THE BIBLE –
For it’s message – John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
4. GIVE THANKS FOR SALVATION - The forgiveness of sins – Jer:33:8: And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they have transgressed against me.
B. For the cleansing power from sin - Psalms:32:5: I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
C. For the assurance of salvation –2 Tim 1:12 - for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
5. GIVE THANKS FOR THE CHURCH –
MATT 16:18 upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
6. GIVE THANKS FOR THE PROVISIONS OF LIFE
A. For food – Rom 14:6 He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
1 Tim 4:3 meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 1Tm:4:4: For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
B. For answered Prayer 1Jo:5:14: And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 1Jo:5:15: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
7. WE SHOULD GIVE THANKS FOR HEAVEN
A. For our treasuers is there. Matt 6:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: M’t:6:21: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
B. For our names are written there - Lu:10:20: Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
C. For our home is there - 2Co:5:1: For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens
