FOUR FRIGHTENING THOUGHTS
"God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?" Numbers 23:19.
I. THE FRIGHTENING THOUGHT OF GOD’S PATIENCE RUNNING OUT!
“And the Lord said: ‘My Spirit shall not always strive with man." Genesis 6:3.
Only the Holy Spirit makes eternal life possible. Jesus said: "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing." John 6:63.
Paul reaffirms this in II Corinthians 3:6: "For the letter [of the law] kills, but the Spirit gives life." Also: Ephesians 2:8-9.
True liberty is available only by the Holy Spirit: "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." II Corinthians 3:17.
Only the Holy Spirit can seal us for eternity: "And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption." Ephesians 4:30.
II. THE FRIGHTENING THOUGHT OF GOD LEAVING MAN TO HIS IDOLATRY!
“Ephraim is joined to idols, let him alone.”
Hosea 4:17.
I John 5:21 gives this admonition:
"Little children, keep yourselves from idols."
Colossians 3:5 tells us that "covetousness is idolatry."
III. THE FRIGHTENING THOUGHT ID OUR SPIRITUAL HOUSE IS NOT IN ORDER!
“Thus saith the Lord: ‘Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.” II Kings 20:1.
Death, itself, holds no fear for the faithful Christian. But not so for the worldly Christian…realizing that "after death the judgment."
Hebrews 9:27.
IV. THE FRIGHTENING THOUGHT OF THE UNBELIEVER’S ETERNAL DAMNATION!
“And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from Me, ye who work iniquity.” Matthew 7:23.
Consider the horrific consequences of this statement made by the Lord! "...depart from Me!"
How frightening for the unbeliever to recall all the opportunities throughout life to get to know God and His love yet dying without Him.
As frightening as this statement is now, think of how utterly devastating it will be when the opportunity to know Him no longer exists!
