Introduction
Each of John’s miracles give us a glimpse of what the
Christian life is to be like. In his first miracle Jesus shows us the Christian life is the better life(John 2:10). Here in his second miracle we discover that the Christian life is the life of faith.
In our passasge we see three groups and their relation
to faith.
1. Those who had no faith(v43-44)
"After the two days he left for Galilee. (Now Jesus himself had pointed out that a prophet has no honor in his own country)"
a. Where you find no honor you find no faith.For
you put your faith in what you honor.
b. Where there is no faith there is no Jesus
c. Faith is often first lost at home.
2. Those who have faith later(v45,48)
"When he arrived in Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him. They had seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, for they also had been there...
"Unless you people see miraculous signs and wonders,"
Jesus told him,"you will never believe."
a. Those who have faith later;
1. seek to see first and then believe later
2. wait up before they walk on
3. Walk by facts not by faith
3. Those who have faith first(v46-54)
a. Those who have faith first;
1. Walk by faith not by sight.
" The man took Jesus at his word and departed"(v50)
You and I cannot walk by faith without taking the word
with us.
2. Believe they will meet up with the answer later.
We are walking by faith and faith is taking us to meet our answer. We do not know when we will have the meeting we just know it will happen.
3. Get a confirmation.(v52-53)
Notice that the man confirmed the time of the healing. Confirmation is a great motive to continuing in the life of faith. Confirmation gets others on board.
Conclusion.
Which of the three catagories descibes us.Are we those who are of no faith, faith later or faith first. To find out which one we fit in just take a promise from God concerning an area of need and see how you respond.
