What David didn’t realize is that in not dealing with the situation he was allowing a foundation to be laid in Absalom’s life that would eventually lead to rebellion.
1. Anger
David’s anger was righteous but he did nothing.
Prov.19:12 – The king’s anger is like the growling of a lion
Absalom’s anger was justified but he was bent on revenge
Ephesians 4:26-27
Be angry and sin not
Let not the sun go down on your wrath
Neither give place to the devil
Ephesians 6:4 – Fathers provoke not your children to anger
but bring them up in the discipline and
instruction of the Lord

Colossians 3:21 – Fathers, do not exasperate your children,
so that they will not loose heart

Exasperate – To stir up, To stir to anger, annoy,
to extremely agitate
2. Resentment –
Favoritism
Injustice
Hebrews 12:15 – Looking diligently lest any man fail of
the grace of God lest any root of bitterness
spring up whereby many are defiled.
3. Hatred
I John 3:15 – Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer
II Samuel 13:23 – Revenge plotted

Resentment
First step in rebellion – Take matters into your own hands.
