Who cares if Billy Goes to Hell (Mark 16:19-31)
Intro: A few weeks ago I told you about one of the people I know. Do you remember old Billy Bob and his night of adventure down at the Red-Dog? Today I’m going to tell you about another Billy.
Billy was born in 1972. He was born in a world somewhat different from the one most of you know. Billy’s mom never whispered lullabies to him; she was too busy looking for another hit of Coke. Instead of worrying about keeping Little Billy’s bottles full of milk, she was filling her veins full of some poison for another high. One day she went on a one way trip and never came back, little Billy found his mother dead in the bathtub from an over dose.
Billy’s dad was always one step ahead of the Law, so he couldn’t take care of him. Little Billy came to live with people in Tennessee, they would take care of him because the Government paid them to. Billy came to a house without love. Billy lived in the slum section of town, where the bootleggers and drug pushers preyed on people like little Billy. They always needed someone to deliver their poison.
All the time Billy was growing up ; he was looking for love, but never found any. No one took the time to tell him that Jesus loved him, neither the Preacher down the street nor the good Christians next door.
After searching for 18 years and never finding love, Billy thought he would end all his torment of living in a world where no one cared. Billy stuck a 38 in his mouth and pulled the trigger. Starting a journey to a place where torment never ends. Little Billy went to Hell and, who cared?
Text: (Luke 16:19-31)
19 Jesus said, "There was a rich man who always dressed in the finest clothes and lived in luxury every day. 20 And a very poor man named Lazarus, whose body was covered with sores, was laid at the rich man’s gate. 21 He wanted to eat only the small pieces of food that fell from the rich man’s table. And the dogs would come and lick his sores. 22 Later, Lazarus died, and the angels carried him to the arms of Abraham. The rich man died, too, and was buried. 23 In the place of the dead, he was in much pain. The rich man saw Abraham far away with Lazarus at his side. 24 He called, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me! Send Lazarus to dip his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am suffering in this fire!’ 25 But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember when you were alive you had the good things in life, but bad things happened to Lazarus. Now he is comforted here, and you are suffering. 26 Besides, there is a big pit between you and us, so no one can cross over to you, and no one can leave there and come here.’ 27 The rich man said, ‘Father, then please send Lazarus to my father’s house. 28 I have five brothers, and Lazarus could warn them so that they will not come to this place of pain.’ 29 But Abraham said, ‘They have the law of Moses and the writings of the prophets; let them learn from them.’ 30 The rich man said, ‘No, father Abraham! If someone goes to them from the dead, they would believe and change their hearts and lives.’ 31 But Abraham said to him, ‘If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not listen to someone who comes back from the dead.’ "

2. Jesus cares
a. He came to seek those that were lost
1. Jesus cared for sinners
(1) Was never harsh to the lost only the religious
(2) Was always with sinners
(3) Reached one more while on the cross
3. The Holy Spirit cares
a. Came on the day of Pentecost
1. Came to draw the lost
2. Gave believers the power to witness
3. Brings conviction
(a) To the lost
(b) To the Christians
(1) Causes us to reach out to the lost
4. Heaven cares
a. Joy in Heaven over one sinner who repents
b. Every convert brings songs of praise in Heaven.
(1) Because a lost one found God
(2) Because a witness did his job.
5. The Devil cares
a. He got one more soul to suffer
b. He stopped a witness from doing his job
6. Hell cares
a. The cry of the rich man (send Lazarus)
b. Those in hell cares
(1) Don’t want to hear the added screams of newcomer to hell
(2) Don’t want to see the face of the newcomer as pain floods his soul

b. Those who care tell others about Jesus
c. Those who care pray for others
d. Those who care live right before sinners
There is a whole world full of little people like Billy, without God they are going to hell.
