Summary: Even the great King David saw the need for Salvation

Ps. 32:1-11 The King’s Need Of Forgiveness

Intro:David was one of the greatest Kings of Isreal.

He was a man after God’s own heart. David was a

great man. He was a man’s man. He had killed bears

and lions. He had gone into battle against a giant

and won. But, David was also a sinner. This Psalm is a

Salvation Psalm. Even in the O.T., we can see the need

for forgiveness of sin. Even when we think we are

close to God, we can find ourselves in need for

forgiveness. The Bible tells us we must be perfect like

God is perfect to get to Heaven. We are not like

God, but Jesus is the Son of God and is the latter we

can climb to get to Heaven. Let’s look at some

Insights to forgiveness here in Ps. 32....

1. The First Insight we see is the NEED of

Salvation.[1-4]

Psalm 32:1-4

A Psalm of David. A Contemplation.

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,

Whose sin is covered.

[2] Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity,

And in whose spirit there is no deceit.

[3] When I kept silent, my bones grew old

Through my groaning all the day long.

[4] For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me;

My vitality was turned into the drought of summer.

Selah

A. Sin is implied.

1. Mankind is sinful, “transgression.”

2. We miss the mark, “sin.”

3. Our nature is to sin, “iniquity.”

4. We have all sinned.

Romans 3:23

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

5. We can not make it by our own

righteousness.

Romans 3:10

As it is written:

"There is none righteous, no, not one;

B. Sin was discovered.[3-4]

1. David was convicted of his sin.

2. He suffered emotionally.

3. He suffered physically.

11. The 2nd Insight is the WAY of Salvation.[5-6]

Psalm 32:5-6

I acknowledged my sin to You,

And my iniquity I have not hidden.

I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,"

And You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Selah

[6] For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You

In a time when You may be found;

Surely in a flood of great waters

They shall not come near him.

A. 1st Sin is Acknowledged.[5],[Ps.51:3]

Psalm 51:3

For I acknowledge my transgressions,

And my sin is always before me.

B. 2nd Sin is Confessed.[5], [1 Jn.1:9;1Tim.2:5]

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 Tim. 2:5

For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,

C. 3rd Sin is Forgiven.[5]

1. God is the God of forgiveness.[Jn.8:1-11]

John 8:1-11

But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. [2] Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the

people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them. [3] Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman

caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, [4] they said to Him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in

adultery, in the very act. [5] Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?"

[6] This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and

wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear. [7] So when they continued asking Him, He raised

Himself up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first." [8] And again He

stooped down and wrote on the ground. [9] Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one

by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. [10]

When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, "Woman, where are those accusers

of yours? Has no one condemned you?" [11] She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said to her, "Neither do I condemn

you; go and sin no more."

2. When God forgives, there is no need to

worry. [Rm. 8:33-37]

Romans 8:33-39

Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. [34] Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who

died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. [35] Who

shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril,

or sword? [36] As it is written:

"For Your sake we are killed all day long;

We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."

[37] Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. [38] For I am persuaded that

neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, [39] nor height

nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our

Lord.

111. The 3rd Insight is the RESULT of Salvation.

[6-11]

Psalm 32:7-11

You are my hiding place;

You shall preserve me from trouble;

You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.

Selah

[8] I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;

I will guide you with My eye.

[9] Do not be like the horse or like the mule,

Which have no understanding,

Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle,

Else they will not come near you.

[10] Many sorrows shall be to the wicked;

But he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him.

[11] Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous;

And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

A. Salvation Provides a door of prayer or

access to God.[6]

B. Salvation Provides a place of Safety and

Security. [6-7]

Col. 3:3

For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

(your righteousness is no longer looked at, but Jesus’

righteousness is seen in you by God the Father.)

C. Salvation provides a Guide to instruction

and leadership.[8-9] [Jn16:12-15]

John 16:12-15

I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. [13] However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has

come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will

speak; and He will tell you things to come. [14] He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to

you. [15] All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

(the Holy Spirit will Guide us and lead us when we are

saved.)

1 Peter 1:13-16

Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to

you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; [14] as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your

ignorance; [15] but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,

[16] because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy."

D. Salvation Provides a reason for being

happy. [10-11][Is. 61:10]

Isaiah 61:10

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,

My soul shall be joyful in my God;

For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation,

He has covered me with the robe of righteousness,

As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments,

And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
