Titus 2:11-15 The Grace of God
Intro: There are many definitions of Grace. The one I
like is:”God’s unmerited favor unto men”. A man dies
and goes to heaven. Of course, St. Peter meets him at
the pearly gates. St. Peter says, "Here’s how it works.
You need 100 points to make it into heaven. You tell
me all the good things you’ve done, and I give you a
certain number of points for each item, depending on
how good it was. When you reach 100 points, you get
in."
"Okay," the man says, "I was married to the same woman
for 50 years and never cheated on her, even in my
heart."
"That’s wonderful," says St. Peter, "that’s worth three
points!"
"Three points?" he says. "Well, I attended church all my
life and supported its ministry with my tithe and
service."
"Terrific!" says St. Peter, "that’s certainly worth a
point."
"One point? Golly. How about this: I started a soup
kitchen in my city and worked in a shelter for homeless
veterans."
"Fantastic, that’s good for two more points," he says.
"TWO POINTS!!" the man cries, "At this rate the only
way I get into heaven is by the grace of God!"
"Come on in!"

[11]”For the Grace of God that brings salvation has
appeared to all man.” This refutes the idea of limited
grace and grace controlled by the Church. It is given
to any person who will trust Christ. Let’s take a look
at Titus and see what God’s grace can teach us...
I. The Grace of God has Appeared to TEACH All
Men.[12]
A. It teaches us to deny ungodliness-ungodliness
is the failure to recognize and honor God in your plans and activities of life.
B. It teaches us to deny wordly lusts.
[rd][I Jn. 2:15-17]
C. It teaches us to live right.
1. soberly, 2. righeously, 3. godly.
II. The Grace of God has Appeared to Cause All
Men to LOOK for That Blessed Hope.[13]
A. Our Hope is the hope of Salvation-”the blessed
hope” [rd Col.1:5,23]
B. Our Hope is the hope of His appearing and
seeing Him-”glorious appearing of our great
God and Savior Jesus Christ.”
III. The Grace of God has Appeared to PURCHASE
to Himself a people.[14]
A. The PRICE of this was Himself-”Who gave
Himself for us, that He might redeem us from
every lawless deed”[rd I Tim. 2:6]
B. The PURPOSE was a Purified and Peculiar
people-”purify for Homself His own special
people”[rd. I Pet. 2:9]
C. The PECULIARITY of His people is their zeal
of good works-”zealous for good works”
1. Witnessing.
2. Using the Gifts.
3. Tithing.
4. Missions.
Con:”Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all
authority”[15]
