Remembering
September 11
Even though the tragic events of September 11, 2001 are behind us, we are still mourning. In addition to all the losses, we live with a new uneasiness. But not all the effects of 9.11 are bad. Many people have found a new respect for others. We have been reminded that life is precious, and is short. Perhaps for the first time, some have discovered a new interest in God. If you are seeking how to establish a spiritual base for your life here are some steps you can take:
Believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for me and showed he was God by coming back to life. 1 Corinthians 15:2-2
Accept God’s forgiveness for my sin. Romans 3:22
Switch to God’s plan for my life. Mark 1:15; Romans 12:2
Express my desire for Christ to be the director of my life. Romans 10:9
If you are willing to take these 4 steps then pray this simple prayer:
Dear God, I believe you sent your son Jesus to die for my sins so that I can be forgiven. I’m sorry for my wrongdoing and I want to try to live the rest of my life the way you want me to. Please put your spirit in my life to direct me. Amen.

"Maybe the purpose of all this is to find out if America today is as strong as when we fought for our independence or when we fought for ourselves as a Union to end slavery or as strong as our fathers and grandfathers who fought to rid the world of Nazism and communism. The terrorists were counting on our cowardice. They’ve learned a lot about us since then, and so have we.” Rudy Giuliani
WHAT GIVES US HOPE IN THE FACE OF DESPAIR? Recalling the Heroes of 9.11.01
What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see. God gave his approval to people in days of old because of their faith. Hebrews 11:1-2
What are characteristics of a hero?
1. A HERO IS SOMEONE WHO ACTS.
Abel brought (v. 4)
Noah built an ark (v. 7)
Abraham went (v. 8)
Abraham offered (v. 17)
Isaac blessed (v. 20)
Jacob bowed in worship (v.21)
Moses refused, chose and left (vv.24-27)
The Israelites passed through (v. 29)
The people of Israel marched (v.30)
“Let’s roll!” Todd Beamer
JESUS: Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God. He made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form. And in human form he obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal’s death on a cross. Philippians 2:7-9
2. A HERO DOES WHAT IS RIGHT.
“By faith…” Hebrews 11
3. A HERO DOES NOT MAKE EXCUSES.
But others trusted God and were tortured, preferring to die rather than turn from God and be free. Hebrews 11:35
[Jesus said] “And here is how to measure it—the greatest love is shown when people lay down their lives for their friends.”¨ John 15:13
Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls! Hebrews 12:1-4 (Msg)
